Melinda Weatherford FRIT 7230 2/24/13 Digital Video Planning Activity

Standards: 4.1.1 Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth. 4.2.4 Show an appreciation for literature by electing to read for pleasure and expressing an interest in various literary genres. 4.4.1 - Identify own areas of interest. Target Audience: The ages of my target audience will be ages 8-13, but I also want to focus on ages 10 and up. I would like my video to reach all levels of education and have crossover appeal. The cultural background of the students at Union Ridge Elementary in Ridgefield, WA (K-6) are 90.88 % white; 5.92% Hispanic; 1.76% Asian/Pacific Islander; .8% American Indian; .64% African American. This reflects most the of the area population, not much diversity. Approximately 24 students participate in the gifted program. All education levels should be reached by this video, and the only entry skill required will be the ability to read. I will make the video attention getting by using humor and making the script interesting and fun. I will keep the video visually stimulating and well paced. I will make sure the script and subject matter is easy for a broad audience to relate to by promoting reading as un-plugging, taking a break from technology and video games. Since students will be able to relate to the topic by seeing other kids choosing a book over a video game, they may feel more confident about making these choices themselves. By the end of the video they should feel satisfaction and excitement about leisure reading, and they will have the ability to select books theyll enjoy. Ill conclude the video with a challenge to set a reading goal, and I will showcase a variety of titles that might capture different interests. Objective: (C): After watching my digital video, (A): reluctant readers, particularly middle grades, (B): will be encouraged to read for leisure and (D): will successfully choose books that relate to their personal interests and growth.
