Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection INTASC Standard: Standard #7: Planning for Instruction.

The teacher plans instruction

that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

Brief Description of Evidence: For standard 7 I chose a propbox I created. The objective
was focused on comprehension and retelling parts of a story. I planned a detailed lesson that implemented a probox, or dramatic play center. In the center, the students acted out parts of the story they read, thereby demonstrating their comprehension of the story.

Analysis of What I Learned: I learned that students learn in diverse ways and different
methods of instruction speak to some students better than others. To accommodate all learners and their intelligences, it is vital to plan to meet their diverse needs. I also learned that to develop important literacy skills, such as comprehension, the students should be involved in engaging activities individually and with other peers.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Standard:

This artifact demonstrates my competence in the INTASC standard because I plan for instruction effectively to meet the needs of each student of the classroom. The standard covers crossdisciplinary skills, involving matters of science, language arts, and math. The students develop important comprehension skills, study and read how plant organisms grow, and calculate how long it takes for certain plants to grow. Within the community context, the students are learning an important skill in gardening, and gaining from a story that, at its core, is bibliotherapy.
