Post-Election Statement of Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr.

I congratulate my fellow Filipinos who have gone out to cast their vote as responsible citizens of this nation. While each of our choices are important towards plotting the destiny of our country, we should be proud of the exercise itself that just commenced, as one that was smooth and generally peaceful. It was indeed a celebration of our democracy. The electorate has spoken. Those of us that won thank our people for their continued trust; aware we carry a huge responsibility on our shoulders of keeping our word and truly being our peoples voices and representatives of their interests in government. It is a privilege bestowed upon us, which we must be grateful for and dutybound to live up to. For those that did not win in the elections, a greater challenge is set before you to find even more creative venues to continue your leadership outside of government office. We must now let go of partisan politics as we speak of the same goal and work together as one towards uplifting our country. Elections are over and now work begins. We thank the COMELEC, the PPCRV and our friends in media, teachers and other volunteers and poll watchers who made this exercise a success through each ones effort and vigilance. Mabuhay kayong lahat at mabuhay ang ating minamahal na bansa. (30)
