Public Service from the Public Servants

I was brought up to believe that politicians are highly respectable individuals. Perhaps
many of you will shift their eyebrows. Well, I am not surprised.
Hello ladies and gentlemen. A pleasant morning to all of you. Let me introduce myself.
I'm Gheeanne Endaya of 1st Year- ALPHA.
May I ask you, who is your presidential bet? Don't get me wrong. I am not endorsing
anyone. Six candidates vying to succeed in the highest position as the Head of state and Head
of our government, the President, while nine are running for Vice-President. All of them are
trying their very best to convince each and every Filipino voters to vote for them. Yes, Grand
rallies and parades aimed at wooing millions of voters who are more concerned about
personalities than policies. They have their own different ways and tactics on how to win the
hearts of many. Some of them can be seen dancing and even singing out-of-tune songs. But
one thing is common they are all reiterating their hopes that would like to make a difference in
the guise of being Public Servants.
They will give justice to the unjust. They vowed to fight the abusive members of the
government as well as the incompetence in government. They will end the unending corruption.
Those are to name the few of their promises.
Public Service or Self- Interest? Honestly, it's very hard for us to distinguish their motives
on why they are running for the position. You can hear them saying their honey-sweet promises
using their sugar-coated tongue as it is music to our ears. But do they even know the true
meaning of public service? I remember one of the candidates for president saying that His fight
is not a fight for himself nor a fight for his family but rather a fight for every Filipino. And another
candidate saying that the Filipinos may not be their masters, but definitely he is their servant. Do
they really mean what they are saying? Those are heavy words that even a true public servant
with a pure heart knows how hard to be fulfilled.
As the election period draws near, as a registered voter, I, myself is still having a hard
time in choosing the right candidate to vote. My parents have their bets as to my relatives. But I
have my own preferences. And you should have to. We have to dig deeper before we decide on
whose name will we shade on the ballot paper on the day of the election. as the future of our
country depends on this. You have to consider issues, think about community or national
problems that you want people in government to address. This is our power. If you don’t vote,
someone else will make the decision for you man. Make your voice be heard in these election
for the greater good of many. Our country, depends on you!
Again, read up, take notes and be sure to vote early!
Make sure your voice is heard! -VOTE Wisely!
