Round Table Discussion on Madrasha Education System in Bangladesh : Where We Are Today and Looking Ahead

A round table discussion focusing on Madrasha Education System in Bangladesh was held on15 June, 2013, at Meghna Hall of BIAM, 63, New Eskaton, Dhaka with the joint collaboration of the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) and The American Center, U.S Embassy, Dhaka. M Azizul Huq, President of BIIT presided over the program. The address of welcome delivered by Mr. Mike Harker, Cultural Affairs Officer of the American Center. Shah Abdul Hannan, Chairman of BIIT Trust played his role as moderator of the program. About 45 participants including former chairman of Madrasha board, principals of different madrashas and teachers of public and private universities of Bangladesh were present in the program. Ms. Sabreen S. Rahman, Program Development Advisor of the American Center, Dhaka, Professor Abdul Malek, Principal of Bangladesh Madrasha Teachers Training Institute (BMTTI), Dr. Lutfor Rahman and M Aftabuzzaman, Vice President and Assistant Director of BIIT respectively were also present in the discussion. In the round table discussion, two papers were presented which were as follows: Paper 1 : Madrasha Education System in Bangladesh : Where We Are Today and Looking Ahead by Dr. Md Abdus Sattar. Madrasha Education Consultant. Paper 2 : Present Status of Madrasha Education in Bangladesh in the Light of Education Policy 2010 by Professor M Mahbubur Rahman, former principal BMTTI.
