Dia daoibh go lir! Hello and welcome to the Spring edition of our School Chronicle! This has been a very busy term. We hope everyone had a great St. Patricks Day. The school was decorated beautifully and our Irish flag was flying high, and now we are all really excited about Easter! The days are getting longer and the weather is improving. Our clocks were turned forward by one hour at the end of March so now we have wonderful long evenings to play outside and get active! All children should spend 60 minutes being active every day! The flowers are starting to blossom, daffodils and snowdrops are in full bloom. In October we planted an acorn, it is now growing a stem and leaves. We also planted an apple tree, which has just sprouted. We are still waiting for the damson tree and horse chestnut tree to grow. On Daffodil Day we collected over 150 in the school and presented it to Mary ONeill, who passed it on to the hospice care group to help people who are ill in our community. This was the 10th year and in that time we have raised 6000 a great cause! Some of us dressed up on this day and it was a non-uniform day. We in 6th Class wore our Confirmation outfits into school and visited each class to show off our style. We think we looked fab! As a group we walked up the village and got a photo taken with Daffodil Day volunteer collectors. At one oclock we had a group photo taken in the church with Ms. Carroll, Fr. Connaughton, Mrs Carolan and Mrs Rowe. We presented flowers to Mrs. Carolan & Mrs. Rowe as a thank you gift for helping us prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are now into March and this has been a very exciting month for 6th Class. Great news! 6th class have received the Holy Spirit and had a great Confirmation Day! It was on the 27th March in the Church of the Holy Cross, Lobinstown. Bishop Michael Smith was sick, so we were confirmed by Monsignor Sen Heaney. Our class made history! This was the very first class in the school to be confirmed by a Monsignor! the Sixth Class did our entrance exams. We were very nervous at first, but now we realise it wasnt as hard as we expected. We were delighted with the outcome of our tests and are now ready for Secondary School! On our trip to Dil Eireann on the 19th February, we were given a guided tour of Government Buildings the Chamber, the Senate, the Entrance Hall and Corridors. We saw portraits of past Taoisigh and one of Constance Markievitz. An usher directed the tour and allowed us time to ask questions. The highlight of this trip was a Questions & Answer session with Ms. Helen McEntee T.D., Thomas Byrne T.D. and a Senator. We were delighted with this meeting and Thomas Byrne told us he was aware of our great school sporting tradition and praised the Dee Ranger Ladies Football club-who are always victorious when they meet his local club. It was a brilliant day! 4th, 5th and 6th classes also went to Newgrange during the 1st and 2nd April. We all had a great time at Br Na Binne. We would like to thank Jennifer Myles for all her hard work in this school for the past two years. We really miss her and so do our teachers!! She gave each one of us in 6th Class a Confirmation Card and a box of chocolates to share when Lent is over! We wish to thank transition year students Cody McEvoy and Daniel Byrne from OCarolan College, Nobber for working with us in our classes this term. All help is greatly appreciated in the classroom! Hope everyone is keeping their Lenten promises. We wish everyone a brilliant Easter and dont eat too many Easter eggs! Cisc shona Daoibh go Lir! Sln go Fill.
