Welcome to this school years final edition of the School Chronicle. Sadly this is the last time, we in Sixth Class, will
act as editors for our school newsletter. We have thoroughly enjoyed the task and now hand it on to next years group
the present 5thClass. Although we are sad to leave this school, we are also happy and excited about the move to
Secondary School and onto the next step in life!
A lot has happened since our last edition, which was at Easter. Second Class have received their First Holy
Communion and we have received the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. We wish to thank all our staff
members, who helped make our day so very special. We would like to say a big Thank You to Eitne Martin - our tin
whistle teacher, Ms. Carroll our principal & choir director and of course Ms. Keenan, our organist. We are indebted to
Mrs Rowe for preparing us so well for this Sacrament, to her daughter Briona for playing the guitar at the ceremony to
Mrs Carolan, and all the Be My Witness Leaders: Kieran Rooney, Joanne Mc Shane, Bernie McCluskey, Mary
Martin, Bernie Burns & Edel Durnin, not forgetting our great friend, Fr. Connaughton! He is such an inspiration to us
all and such a role model in life! Our final Be My Witness meeting was held on Tuesday 2 nd June. The guest speaker
was Mr. Harry Casey a great man, who told such interesting stories. He gave a wonderful talk to parents and pupils of
both Meath-Hill & Drumconrath National Schools. He spoke in such an interesting manner about himself, his life and
family. He then spoke to all 6th Class pupils about their transition to Secondary School, cyber bulling, peer pressure
etc. He encouraged us to become pioneers and to keep close to God, by praying regularly and attending Mass. He was
indeed an inspiration to us all! It was a fantastic night!
On the 5thJune, all classes went on their school tours. We went to Tanagh Adventure Centre it was magnificent,
filled with fun, laughter, excitement and craic! On the 20 th May, we went on our Confirmation Trip to the National
Aquatic Centre, Qzar in Leisureplex and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. We had a wonderful time and it was
lovely to go as a class group and spend some quality time together!
In the month of May, the Senior Classes went on an educational historical trip to the War Museum in Collon,
through the Boyne Valley and on to the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge. We learned so much history that day.
Driving through the historical glens of Co. Meath was an amazing experience, to see first-hand where this great battle
was fought in 1690 and follow in the footsteps of James and William of Orange! Following on from this trip, we
watched Nobber National School pupils perform in a play entitled, Nobbers Forgotten Heroes, based on World War
. They were brilliant and added to the history lessons we had learned on our earlier trip.
Just recently, we had a student teacher Mr. Reid, working in our classroom. We enjoyed his time with us! An inspector
came to visit him in our classroom and watched him teach our class. Mr. Reid was delighted with us and we got a
night off homework as a result!
Our end of Year Mass will be held on 23rd June at 9.30 a.m. Parents and family members are invited. That will be
followed by our end of year party. We will miss this school! We have a lot of memories to bring with us!
This will be an emotional day as we depart from St. Peter & Pauls N.S and head off to Secondary Schools in
Carrickmacross, Ardee, Kells and Nobber. One of our favourite schools will always be Drumconrath N.S. We will be
sad leaving our friends, but will make new ones!
Hope everyone did well in their Summer Tests and get glowing reports from your teachers! Wishing everybody a safe
and happy summer! Hope the sun shines for you all!
