SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT For some time now I have observed that we have increasing numbers of children and busses that arrive early. At the same time we have large numbers of students that have to leave early at the end of the school day. Following discussions with staff and the bus contractor, I am proposing a change in our opening and closing times a change that would see us open 15 minutes earlier in the morning and close 15 minutes earlier in the afternoon. Beginning on April 28, 2014, we plan to experiment with a change in our daily schedule that will see children get off busses and move into instructional areas at 8:15 with homeroom and classes beginning at 8:30 AM. The recess break will start at 10:00 and end at 10:15 AM. Lunch for Grade 1, 2 & 3 students will begin at 11:35 AM and end at 12:25 PM. Lunch for Grade 4, 5, & 6 will start at 12:15 PM and end at 1:05 PM. The morning Kindergarten group will leave the school at 11:25 AM and the afternoon group will start at 12:25 PM. Classes for students will end at 2:25 with homeroom continuing until 2:35 PM. Bus lineups and dismissal will begin at 2:35 with busses leaving at 2:45 PM.

As indicated above, we would like to experiment with this change. In conversations with the bus contractor, I am advised that busses will not have to change their pick up times any earlier than they do at present. What this change means for students is a little earlier start to their instructional day. Many of them are already sitting on their busses too long in the morning and we have many more that get dropped off early by parents who are on the way to their work place. As we process the adjustments of this change, we would like to hear from you with your observations and comments. Feel free to offer your suggestions to any staff member or you can submit in writing through the contact form located on the schools new home page at www.ahenl.org. We need to hear from you! Head Lice Head lice have been a common problem for many years and it is fairly easy to get at home, play, or school. They are mainly spread through direct head to head contact but also from sharing hats, brushes, headphones, helmets, hair accessories and other personal items. If you suspect head lice or have any questions, please contact your Community Health Nurse by phoning 786-5228. She/he will advise you on what to look for and provide information on effective treatment for your family.
