Home and School Connection

I hope you enjoy reading and taking tips from our new monthly
publication Home and School Connection. This newsletter is designed
to give practical ideas to promote academic success, effective parenting, a
solid home-and-school partnership, healthy habits, and positive character traits. If you miss the
paper version it is posted to our school website WWW.AHENL.ORG.
Halloween Activities
Halloween is an exciting time for children and adults alike. We all like to have fun and keeping
the FUN in Halloween is what it is all about. On Friday, October 30 we have a number of fun,
healthy activities planned throughout the day to celebrate with our students.
With the exception of Kindergarten which operates on a different schedule, students are asked to
bring their costumes to school for use in the afternoon session.
For safety reasons, do not have your child wear a costume to school. Assistance and time for
transition will be provided. Masks and weapons are NOT PERMITTED.
In keeping with the Provincial School Food Guidelines and the policy and
practices of our school, please DO NOT send any food items or other types of
treats (pencils, books, erasers, etc.) to school for distribution. Each year we
have a number of parents who get concerned about some of the things that
get distributed and we often have children who get upset if they do not have
treats to give out.
If you find it necessary to deliver treats to special friends, please do so after
school hours.
Food Allergies
We routinely deal with a number of serious medical conditions and safety issues related to food
consumption. At present we have students registered with allergies to peanuts, fish,
and eggs. Your support in recognizing these health concerns and providing your child
with food products free from these ingredients would be greatly appreciated.
Head Lice
Head lice are a reoccurring problem and we receive routine reports from parents about
this pest. Vigilant parents are the best line of defense in controlling head lice.
Please check your children regularly and if you need assistance please contact Health and
Community Services in Bay Roberts at 786-5224.

Holiday Musicals
Holiday Musicals are scheduled for December 8, 10, 15, & 17. Primary division (K 3) will be on
stage on December 8 & 10. Elementary students are scheduled for
December 15 & 17. Classes of children performing on the respective nights
are as follows:
