Hormones and Enzymes, Differences and Similarities

Similarities
Diferrences
Structure
-They contain amino-acids

-They both are soluble in
water an take advantage of
this while they transport
-Not all hormones are proteins but
enzymes are all proteins

-Enzymes can form an Enzyme substrate
complex while hormones dont

-Enzymes have and active site while
hormones do not
Function
-They both take part in body
functions like digestion,
growth, etc
-The body needs only small
amounts of these

-Hormones are meant to control the
activities of specific cells while Enzymes
are mainly used as catalysts to speed up
chemical reactions.

-Hormones deteriorate while enzymes
can be recycled

- Enzymes act quickly while hormones act
on a long term or slowly.

- Hormones are released directly to the
blood stream while Enzymes must go
through the pancreatic ducts
