MOMENTUM
Any moving
objects is said to
have momentum.
An object that
does not move,
does not have
momentum.
In equation, the momentum of an object
is equal to the mass of the object times
the velocity of the object.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
MOMENTUM, MASS & VELOCITY
The bigger the mass of a moving object,
the bigger is the momentum.

The higher the velocity of a moving
object, the greater is the momentum.
When only one
trolley collided
with trolley A, the
trolleys moved
0.7m.
When two trolleys
collided with
trolley A, the
trolleys moved
further.
When three
trolleys collided
with trolley A, the
trolleys moved
even further.
When trolley B
moves, it has
momentum.
The higher the
track is raised,
the higher is the
velocity of
trolley B.
The distance of
the trolleys
move represents
how big the
momentum is.

0.8 m
1.3 m
1.6 m
PRINCIPLE OF CONSERVATION OF
MOMENTUM
When two objects collide with one another
and there is no external force involved,
the total momentum before collision is
equal to the total momentum after the
collision.

APPLICATION OF MOMENTUM IN
EVERYDAY LIFE
-watch the video-
1. Push trolley A gently so that it roll
down the track and collide with
trolley B.
2. Trolley A and B stuck and move
together.
3. Measure and record the distance that
both trolleys take to stop, from the
point of collision.
4. Repeat the experiment by adding
another trolley on the top of trolley A.
