RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH A REGIONAL PRIMARY

WHEREAS, on February 5, 2008, known as "Super Tuesday," 22 states held their presidential
primaries and caucuses; and

WHEREAS, on Super Tuesday, over 1,500 delegates to the Democratic National Convention
were at stake; and

WHEREAS, many Super Tuesday states were virtually ignored by the candidates and the press;
and

WHEREAS, on the day after Super Tuesday, the Democratic Party was no closer to having a
nominee; and

WHEREAS, a regional approach to presidential primaries would allow candidates to better

allocate time and resources; and

WHEREAS, a regional approach to presidential primaries would allow voters in regional

primaries to better focus on issues important to them; and

WHEREAS, a series of regional primaries across the nation would result in a more rational
process for selecting a presidential nominee;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chair of the Texas Democratic Party should work
with the Chair of the Democratic National Committee and the Chairs of the state Democratic
parties of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana to explore the possibility of
establishing a regional primary that includes Texas and surrounding states in time for the 2012
presidential primaries.
