|| A Tribute to the VedAs ||

I just finished listening to the splendidly recorded tapes on Rg Vedam (Volume

I) and Atharva Vedam (Volume I) sent to me by Sri Krishnan, Trustee of the
Delhi Vedic Trust. I want to share with you my great joy and
anandhAnubhavam of listening to the sacred recitation.

Thanks to the Trustees of the Delhi Vedic Trust

***********************************************

It is a great blessing for the Veda dhvani to pervade the mind and body. These
are the set of tapes that would be most important to every one of the temples in
North America for use in their daily worship of the Veda Purushan . The tireless
effort to produce these high quality tapes with the particpation of GanapAtis
trained in the traditional manner is beyond imagination . I thank Sriman
KrishNan and his fellow trustees for undertaking this challenge of an immense
dimension and completing it .

Scope of my postings on Vedams

******************************

I will post a few articles on the VedAs and the powerful meaning of some of the
Rks and manthrAs as I continue with the journey of listening to these tapes.
Some six years ago, I studied all the four samhithAs in the text form without the
benefit of listening to them in the recited form. These tapes will help to fulfil my
life's ambition of listening to them in their entirety and be linked to the timeless
tract travelled by our ancient rishis and AchaaryAs. I will start with Atharva
Vedam and then go onto Rig Veda SamhithA.

The Connection Between Purva and Uttara mImAmsam

************************************************

Purva MeemAsam deals with the karma khAndam sections/rituals of the

VedAs. In an earlier article, I referred to PurvamImAmsam's first sUtram:
athAthO dharma jigy~nAsA (Now, therefore, there must be an inquiry into the
nature of duty); In that context, I quoted the first sUthram of BadarAyaNA,
athAthO Brahma jigy~nAsA (Now, therefore, let us proceed with the inquiry of
the infinite and eternal Brahman). I mentioned that the study and performance
of the Vedic sacrifices have ephemeral and limited fruits, whereas the results of
the knowledge of Brahman is eternal and infinite and therefore the inquiry into
the nature of Brahman should be undertaken with the appropriate AchAryAs. It
is however not possible to skip the study of VedAs and jump on to the inquiry
about Brahman.

The two kinds of Knowledge: Para and apara vidhyAs

**************************************************

The great tradition of the transmission of knowledge thru AchArya Mukham is

recorded in Mundaka Upanishad as a conversation between BrahmA, the creator
and his eldest son, AtharvA about the knowledge of BRAHMAN, the corner
stone of ALL knowledge. AtharvA taught what he had learned from his father
to AngirA, who in turn taught it to SatyavAhA belonging to the clan of
BharadvAjA; SatyavAhA passed that supreme knowledge in succession to Sage
Angiras .

SaunakA, the celebrated grahasthA approached Sage Angiras and asked humbly:
"O Illustrious sage! kasminnu BhagavO vig~nyAthE sarvamidham vig~nAtham
bhavathee ? (What is that by the knowing of which all this becomes known?)

Sage Angiras replied: "two kinds of knowledge needs to be known according to

the knowers of Brahman. They are the higher knowledge (parA) and the lower
knowledge (aparA)"

Sage Angiras explained further that the lower knowledge is the Rig Veda, the
Yajur VedA, the Saama VedA and Atharva VedA, SikshA (phonetics), kalpA
(rituals), vyAkarNam (grammer), NirukthA (etymology), cchandas (metre) and
JyOthisham (astronomy); and the higher knowledge is that by which the
imperishable Brahman is attained.

Sage Angiras said:" dhvE vidhyE vEdhithavyE ithi ha sma yadh BrahmavidhO
vadanthi ParA chaivAparA cha "AparA are the four VedAs and their six angAs
to understand the nature of DharmA and the ParA is the knowledge about the
imperishable (akshaya) Brahman, which is the embodiment of DharmA. That
omniscient, Omnipotent, all merciful Brahman has been defined as the
source/origin, sustenance and dissolution of this multifaceted world according
to the second Brahma sUthrA (JanmAdhyasya yatha:). That Brahman is
cognized only through the scriptures, the sources of authoritative knowledge
about Brahman (Saasthra yOnithvAth: Brahma-sUthram 1.3).The next Brahma
sUtram goes on to point out that Brahman is the main purport of all Vedic and
upanishadic texts (tatthu samanvayAth). Thus one can not dismiss the VedAs
quickly as apara vidhyA and jump on to Para vidhyA. Rigorous study of the
VedAs reveal to us the appproach to Brahman, the para VidhyA, the ultimate
goal for us all.

The four categories of Knowledge in the VedAs

*********************************************
The four VedAs contain four important categories of knowledge related to
DharmA:

(1) Injunctions and Prohibitions

(2) Valedictory (praise) and deprecatory passages
(3) MantrAs and
(4) Names

All these four are necessary to understand true DharmA or righteous duty from
different angles. Thus an inquiry in to them through the study of the VedAs
becomes an essential pre-requisite in one's journey towards the comprehension
of Brahman (para VidhyA). The authority of the VedAs for us is supreme and
final and hence a proper understanding of them with the help of a qualified
AchAryA sets us on a safe footing to comprehend Brahman and achieve the
parama purushArtham of Moksham. Our tradition is therefore called Vaidhikam
or the one based on the authoritativeness of the VedAs.

The four kinds of Veda SamhithAs: Atharva SamhithA

***************************************************

Rig, Yajur, Saama and Atharva samhithAs constitute the four VedA samhithAs.
Each of them have more than one branch (SaakA). The oldest VedA is
recognized as Rig Vedam and the youngest is the Atharva Vedam. Latter has
nine branches or rescensions (navadhAatharvaNO veda:). These nine branches
are: (1) PaippalAda (2) Tauda (3) MuNda (4) SaunakIya (5) Jaajala (6) Jalada (7)
BrAhmaveda (8) Devadarsa and (9) ChAraNavaidya. Today, only two of the
nine branches of Atharva Vedam (Saunakha and PaippalAda) are available to us.
The Delhi Vedic trust has recorded the Saunakha sAkA .

The Atharva Veda samhithA has 5977 verses spread over 20 KhAndams
(books/chapters). The khAndams are further subdivided into hymns and they in
turn house a group of manthrAs. Some prefer to catalogue the Atharva Veda
Text (SamhithA)into prapaathakAs (Lessons or lectures). Under this
classification, there are 34 prapAthakAs that house the 5977 verses. Among
NammAzhwAr's four Tamil Prabhandhams, Periya ThiruvanthAdhi is
considered as the essence of Atharva Vedam.

The Delhi Vedic trust has recorded the 20 KhAndhams of Atharva Vedam in 14
audio tapes. I have now enjoyed listening to two of the twenty khAndams.

Rg Veda SamhithA
****************

This ancient Vedam has 1,028 sUkthams (hymns) and contains in all 10,589
verses. These are grouped into either 8 KhAndAs or 10 MandalAs with 85
anuvAkAs (subsections). There used to be 21 sakAs (redactions) of the Rig
VedAs. There is only one available today. That is Saakala SaakA. IythrEya
Upanishad belongs to Rig Veda SamhithA. NammAzhwAr's Thiruviruttham is
consdieres as the Veda SaarArtham of Rig Vedam.

The Delhi Vedic Trust has recorded Saakala sAkA in 27 ninety minute tapes.
During my father's sahasrAbhshEkam celebration, there was one Rig Vedic
expert from Mayavaram, who recited that samhithA. He was lost in the
ghOsham of Saama and KrishNa yajur Vedams. My great desire to hear the
authentic renditon of the Rig Vedam is now satisfied.

Yajur Veda SamhithA

*******************

This Vedam has 1975 verses grouped under 40 chapters known as adhyAyAs.
The longest chapter has 117 "verses" and the shortest chapter has 13 "verses ".
There are two Yajur samhithAs: Sukla and KrishNa (White and Black)
samhithAs. The White Yajur Veda samhithA is also known as VajasanEyi -
MadhyAndina Sukla Yajur vedam to distinguish it from KrishNa Yajur Veda or
Taittiriya SamhithA, which is generally considered to be more close to a
BrahmaNA rather than to a Sruthi. Most of the people in AndhrA and Tamil
Naadu are KrishNa Yajur Vedins.

The two samhithAs have number of recensions in view of their wide popularity.
These variations arose from a variety of textual differences and their applications
in Vedic rituals. The two popular recensions of the Sukla Yajur Vedam are:
MaadhyAndhina and KaaNva; the KrishNa Yajur Vedam has three recensions:
kAtaka, Kapishtala-Kata and MaithrAyaNee.

Saama samhithA
**************

In its importance in YaagAs and sacredness, Saama Veda SamhithAs rank next
to Rig VedA. The Lord of GeethA however has put this Saama samhithA on the
top of all four SamhithAs with His declaration that He is Saama VedA among
the VedAs. This samhithA consists of hyms chanted by udhgAtri priests at the
Soma YaagAs. Many of the hymns originate from Rig Vedam and have been
rearranged without reference to the original order in the Rig Vedam and set to
music. Only 75 verses of the total of 1,875 verses of Saama Vedam are not to be
found in Rig Vedam. The remaining 1,800 verses are essentially the repetitions
of Rig Vedic verses. The important distinction however is that they are sung
instead of being recited. The Rig Vedam deals with knowledge and Saama
Vedam deals with UpAsanA, Worship and DhyAnam.

According to one classification, the Saama samhithA is catalogued under two

sections: PurvArchikA and UttarArchikA. Each archikA is subdivided into
prapaathakAs and adhyAyAs. In another classification, the 1875 verses are
grouped under FOUR categories:

1. PurvArchikA: 585 verses ( 1-585 );2. AraNya KhAndam : 55 verses (586-640 )

3. MahAnAmnyArchikA : 10 verses( 641-650 );4. UttarArchikA: 1225 verses (
651-1875)In singing, the priests of the Yaj~nams follow specific styles through
alteration of prolongation, repetition, modulation, rests et al. These become the
various styles of Saama GhAnams: congregational (GrAma gEya GhAnam),
AraNya ghAnam (Forest song style), Uha ghAnam and Uhya GhAnam.

Saama Vedam had originally 1001 branches. We have very few left now.
NammAzhwAr's celebrated Thiruvaimozhi is recognized as the Saama Veda

WOMEN IN EPICS
17.DRAUPADI – 2.
ONE IN TEN THOUSAND
Duryodana asked Durvasa to accept the hospitality of his cousin Yudhishtra and
brothers with all his pupils ten thousand in number. He has suggested going when
Draupadi has finished meals and taking rest thereafter. Duryodana thought after
Draupadi had taken her meal, cooking utensils granted to her by the Sun God could
yield no more food. Durvasa could make out the real motive of Duryodana's
request, but granted his request. Accordingly Durvasa one day appeared in
Karunyaka , a forest with his ten thousand pupils . Yudhishtra and four brothers
received with respects a honoured guest and invited him to take his meal. Durvasa
then took bath in river and came back. Draupadi then felt much disturbed and
prayed Lord Krishna to rescue her from the calamity.
KRISHNA- KRISHNA MAHA BA HO DEVAR NANDANA VYA YAM |
VASUDEVA JAGANNATHA PRANATARTI VINASHANA ||
Hearing the pitiable call from Draupadi, Sri Krishna reached there and ate the single
grain of rice in the Akshaya Patra. Sri Krishna with
Rukmani came in haste from Dwaraka immediately and
rushed to Karunyaka forest and met Draupadi. Draupadi
felt happy on seeing the lord and started telling the
predicament with which she was faced. But Lord just said
he himself is in hungry. Draupadi told her difficulty in
procuring food and there is nothng to eat. Lord Krishna
immediately asked to bring the vessel presented to her
by the Sun God to show it to him. But Lord was able to
find a vegetable leaf sticking in the vessel and said to her
that this leaf is enough to satisfy all the 3 worlds.
Meantime Durvasa and ten thousand pupils felt their stomach has been loaded up
to the very throat. So Durvasa asked him to leave the place immediately. As
Pandavas are devotees of Krishna and have invited them for meals, it is not proper
to say as their stomach being filled up. Hearing Durvasa's word all ten thousand
puplis immediately dispersed and ran away in different directions. Krishna invited
Pandavas to Dwaraka and told “Those who are constantly devoted to the virtuous
conduct never suffer".
Draupadi was a devotee of Sri Krishna and had an unshakable faith in Him and
regarded him as the protector, well- wisher and intimate friend. As said in last ‘one
in hundred ‘when Dusasana tried to bare her in the Kauravas court ,nobody among
the present raised a voice against it. So immediately , Draupadi called and cried to
Lord Krishna to save her grace as
GOVIND DWARAKAWASI KRISHNA GOPI JANA PRIRYA |
KAURAVAIH PARIBHUTAM MAM KIM NA JANASI KESHAVA ||
Lord Krishna appeared then as the clothes of Draupadi. With the kindness of Lord
Krishna, Draupadi's sari increased many fold. Dusasana was then tired of drawing
her sari but he could not find the end of it. It was a miracle of the God to save his
devotee.

ONE IN ZERO

Draupadi has five husbands but she has none. She had five sons and was never a
mother, No joy, no sense of victory, no honor as wife, no respect as mother, but
only the status of queen. It is not money or position that makes any one great. No
one in this world can escape troubles and difficulties. Draupadi was the queen of
the five Pandavas. Subhadra was Krishna’s sister and the wife of Arjuna. Even they
had to suffer so much. One has to develop the strength to bear the trials of life. We
should resolve firmly not harm the good people, and not to bend before the wicked.
The Dhramya vartana of Draupadi is well portrayed as, even at the time of great
stress, sorrow, difficulty, one never must deviate from the path of truth, Dharma.
'Do not mock others on their frailities otherwise results can be disastrous'-
Draupadi mocked at Duryodana calling him the 'blind son of a blind father'and this
remark pricked straight into the heart of Duryodana who nursed it for an occasion
of revenge. That also a remark though jocularly made, became the potent cause of
Mahabharatha.

When battle of Mahabharatha came to an end, Aswathama saw

his friend Duyodana in a pitiable condition. Out of wrath he
took a sinister vow to kill pandavas while sleeping. In dark
nighr he then entered Pandavas camp and killed all the five
sons of Draupadi recklessly by chopping off their heads. But
Duryodana condemned this action. Lord Krishna asked Arjuna
to take action against the attacker. Arjuna chased Aswathama
and brought before Draupadi bound with hard ropes. But
Draupadi asked to unfasten and set him free, as Aswathama’s
wife will then undergo unbearable pangs. Humanity nature of
Draupadi on another woman even when she was affected by
him is most laudable one.

ONE IN TWO

The Hindus can be proud of two great epics Ramayana and Maha Bharatha, which
were composed by two great sages Valmiki and Vyasas and they are called as
Ithihasas. The term Ithihasa indicates that episodes in them are real and true and
the characters therein had actually gone through several vicissitudes. Their
experiences had been embroidered excellently in the main theme, each one
throwing valuable lessons to help posterity to set everything in order.
Mahabharatha epic relates the story of two princely families and the heroic deeds
of valour which were performed in the Great War fought by the two branches. There
are characters and there are events which if rightly understood can become the
guiding principles of our life for all times. Women Characters in Mahabharatha if
properly understood, the lessons that are imparted can go a long way in making
our life great and glorious, honest and honorable. Numbers such as one wife to five
husbands is just for the sake of sharing one’s responsibilities and adhere Dharma
at all levels. One can achieve perfection and reach God solely guided by the twin
factors Righteousness and Truth (Dharmam and Satyam) ..

ONE IN MANY

As there may be many errors, I just want to conclude this with one word ‘pardon’ as
in the sloka in SriVishnu Sahasranama parayanam
Yadakshara padabhrshtam maatraa heenam tu yad bhavet / Tat sarvam
kshayataam deva narayana nmamosthuthe // Visarga bhindu maatraani
padapaadaa ksharaani cha / nyoonaani chatiriktaani kshamaswa purushothama //

Which states as "I may have erred whilst construction of, writing of, pronouncing
of, sentences, words, consonants, improper grammar, verb, vowels, of the prayers .
I may also have forgotten punctuation marks due to my ignorance in understanding
the heavenly idiom, Oh my lord May flaws be overlooked for they are out of my
ignorance again. I seek you to pardon me for all the commissions and
commissions for they are involuntary and kindly bless me for the endeavor".

Save the Flower- garden of Swamy Ranganatha of Srirangam.
Madhurakavi Nandavanam of Srirangam takes care of the flower-needs of the Srirangam
Ranganathar temple. The garlands which adorn Lord Namperumal are prepared by the devout
ekankis (celibate bachelor Sri Vaishnavas , who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of
performing kainkarya for Lord Namperumal)without any monetary gain for themselves .The
Nandavanam was donated by Madhurakavi Alwar in 1840 for the above kainkaryam. Now this
Nandavanam is about to be taken over by the Tamilnadu Govt. citing some legal formalities in the
Will of Sri Madhurakavi swamy.

"I am writing this to you from Srirangam, TN, a Foremost Vaishnavite Temple town, where the HR

archanas. I am a correspondent of Hindu Voice, Mumbai. Flowers are brought from this garden
for the past 150 years. Madurakavi Nandhavanam (under a private trust harvested under
stringent scriptural injunctions, where the gardeners refrain from taking even tea or coffee .In

Respected Bhagavathas,
At the outset let me wish you all a Happy Sri Jayanthi.
I am very happy to present the Creation of my Guru Bratha (BROTHER) Sri Haresh (Singapore) of
Mumbai's New website http://www.vishnubhakti.com this website is launched with t he
Blessings of our Acharyan H H Rangapriya Maha Desikan.
The site is a general bhakti site with some references here and there to Ramanuja Sampradayam.
The focus of this site is not to engage in any major philosophical discussions but to provide an
online resource to those who are interested in engaging in Bhagavad, Bhagavata and Acharya
Kaimkaryams. The idea is to encourage Bhakti to Perumal among a wider audience and especially
to those who are from outside our sampradayam and more than anything those living abroad
who don't have the devotee or temple network.
Kindly send your feed back to us so that we can further improve the site.

Dear Sriman Govindaswamy :

There are no special food that needs to be offered . What you offer to Bhagavaan during your daily
worship ( ArAdhanam ) can be offered . The bhAvam ( loving attitude) and Bhakti are the most
important ingredients in offering of food . The other things to do are to recite either the stotrams
composed by this great AchAryan in both Tamil and Sanskrit .

Adaikkala Patthu in Tamil and NyAsa Dasakam , DasAvatAra StOtram , Sri Stuti ,

Godhaa Stuti , KaamAseekAshtakam in Sanskrit can be recited . The original Texts in Tamil and
Sanskrit of Sawmi Desikan are available in the following two web sites :

http://www.sundaras imham.org ( adaikkala Patthu and Chitra Desikeeyam are the 31st and 56th
ebooks in this series). http://www.ahobilav alli.org ( NyAsa Dasakam is here ).

You can also perform Archanai with Tulasi or Mallikai while reciting Sri VenkatEsa

ashtOttaram used in Thirumala ( another e book in the Sundara Simham series).

There is another ebook entitled " Chitra Desikeeyam " in one of the above two web sites ,

which gives the sacred history of Swamy Desikan in pictures . Yourself and your family can browse
and enjoy the highlights of His life on earth andHis vaibhavam .

At Tiruvaheendhrapuram and Kaancheepuram , a big assembly of devotees will recite many of His
sacred works and climb the hill with Swamy Desikan ; this ghoshti recital in unison would be most
enchanting to hear

We have a very special event taking place at Thiruvaheendhrapura m this year . This is the
presentation (samarpaNam) of a golden ( Gold plated silver ) throne to this greatest AchArya for
use during the many festivals for Him .The devotees working on this kaimakryam need 1.5 Laks of
Rupees to complete this kaimakryam and present this special throne on September 29,2009 during
His birthday (Thiru nakshatram) .

It is my pleasure to invite all Sawmy Desika BhakthAs to support this Kaimakryam with whatever
amount they can . I will be happy to provide you the Indian bank to which you

INTRODUCTION.
LORD SRIKRISHNA, APPROACHED DHURYODHANA ON BEHALF OF
PANCHAPANDAVA TO GET THEIR SHARE OF LAND IN IN THE RAJYAM. BUT
DHURYODHANA REFUSED TO GIVE THEM EVEN A PIECE OF LAND. HENCE BOTH
THE PARTIES DECIDED TO FIGHT AND THEY CHOSEN “ KURUKSHETHRA “ A
PILGRIMAGE PLACE WHERE PLENTY OF WATER AND SPACE AVAILABLE FOR THE
WAR AND MORE OVER NO OTHER KING CAME FORWARD TO ALLOW THE WAR IN
THEIR LAND. SINCE THIS PLACE IS COMMON TO BOTH OF THEM THEY DECIDED
TO FIGHT IN THIS PLACE.

ARJUNA SAW HIS INTIMATERELATIVES, TEACHER AND FRIENDS BOTH SIDES

READY TO FIGHT AND SACRIFUCE THEIR LIVES IN THE BATTLE FIELD.OVERCOME
BY GRIEF AND PITY ARJUNA LOST HIS STRENGTH AND GIVENUP HIS
DETERMINATION TO FIGHT. AT THAT TIME LORD KRISHNA FRIEND OF ARJUNA
AND ALSO THE HIS CHARIOTEER, STARTED TEACHING WHY AND WHAT FOR HE
HAS TO FIGHT AGAINST GOURAVAS. THIS BRINGS US TO THE POINT AT WHICH
BHAGAVATH GEETA BEGINS.

WE WILL MEET NEXT WEEK

A serene mind with clear Conviction

kalangal illAp-pugazhAn Kaliyan

The Lord being ' the be all and end all' is the cornerstone of our
philosophy.
AzhwArs- have highlihted this fact and it has been elucidated by
our pUrvAchAryAs.

The fact of AzhwAr-s longing for the Almighty ,yearning for Him
and devising
dubious methods like taking up maDal and resorting unsavory
means like
threatening with following other means -refer the ninth pAsuram
of the 9-3-9 of Thriumozhi - and so on has to be seen in the light of
their emotions. Does it not speak volumes of their mis-
understanding of the concept or does it
categorically point to the fact that their minds indeed are
fluctuating?

Indeed not. Their faith in Him is strong. Their conviction is rock

solid. Then, one may ask, why should they resort to such
undesirable ways of reaching Him.
In fact, these are not method of reaching Him but methods of
survival while
desiring Him and assuaging the agony during the period of painful
separation
from EmperumAn.

Never, had they resorted to any other means as svAmi nAm

AzhwAr incisively
coins this is a few words 'en nAn seigEan' ThriuvAiMozhi 5-8;

Thriumangai AzhwAr who meticulously follows the footsteps of

mARan cannot but
follow the same tenets and if someone feels that the survival
instincts of
Azhwar gets transformed into dastardly acts and words, they at
best can be
taken as manifestation of yearning for His presence rather than
means to
attain Him.

In fact, even this degree of depression of the mind in being away

from the
Lord, is highly commendable as this emotion does not catch one
and all like
mortals like me.The bakthi pAravyasyam indicates the exalted
position they are in.This itself gives them the special status and
fame 'pugazh'

SRIVAISHN AVISM

The blessed ones

In the Srimad Bhagavatam, which tells the story of Lord Krishna, there are
18,000 verses. Lord Vishnu wrote the Bhagavatam and taught Lord Brahma
the verses. In turn, Brahma taught Lord Narada, who taught Vyasa. Vyasa
taught Sukhabrahmam and Sukhabrahmam taught Pareekshit. Thus, the
Srimad Bhagavatam is of divine origin, said Damal Ramakrishnan in a
discourse.

Pareekshit is cursed to die of a snake bite, and only seven days of his life are
left. He asks Sukhabrahmam how he should spend the last days of his life.
Sukhabrahmam tells him that he should listen to the story of Krishna.
Pareekshit wonders whether he will be able to listen to all of it in just seven
days. Sukhabrahmam replies that even if one listens to Krishna’s story for an
hour every day, one will benefit. Only those who are blessed will have the
good fortune of listening to Krishna’s story. We have to take several births —
as grass, reptiles, and animals — before we are born as human beings. So to
be born as humans is a blessing in itself. To be born in the ‘punya bhumi’
where Krishna lived is a greater blessing. This ‘punya bhumi’ is further blessed
by the birth in it of several Acharyas, who have travelled the length and
breadth of the country. One should be blessed to have good parents, who
make it possible for their children to listen to the elevating stories of Krishna.
Man is conditioned by his surroundings, and a person who has the opportunity
to listen to stories of Krishna should consider himself blessed.

The Lord appears on this Earth when dharma is under threat and Mother
Earth’s burden becomes unbearable. When Kamsa rules Mathura, Bhooma
Devi, along with Brahma and the celestials, decides to go to Lord Narayana for
help. But even before they take two steps, the Lord, aware of their desire,
tells them that He will appear as Krishna and slay Kamsa.

In the case of human beings, parents pray for good children. But in the case
of Krishna, He chooses His two sets of parents — Devaki and Vasudeva — as
His biological parents, and Yasoda and Nandagopa to be His foster parents.
