Purpose:
To create a safer work environment on the Monosil
lines and reduce hazards created with
vinyltrimethoxysilane (silane).

Official Scope of Silane Process Safety Project
Add ventilation and repair the berms inside the silane
storage building
Renovate an old building for the empty tote storage by
adding berms, repairing garage doors, and adding a
ventilation system
Move the silane system to the ground level from the
mezzanine and fabricate a safer system setup
Add pressure switches and gauges inside silane piping to
detect leaks
Add alarms to indicate possible silane leaks
Change out the feed throats from 65 extruders to match
64
Buy new respirators to protect operators

Items Accomplished
Looked at the chemical MSDS and evaluated the most
important possible changes necessary for the safety of
the plant
Had environmental studies done on the air in the silane
work areas
Received 13 overall quotes for the silane process safety
project and am still awaiting 2 quotes
Wrote the CER and as much of the Financial Summary as
possible without all of the quotes present
Completely cleaned and recalibrated 65A Canister and
hopper from past silane leaks
