Nanotechnology

Presented by Cole Weber, Tony

Molloy and Zach Roesler
Origin
Nanotechnology is a relatively recent concept. 1980s
Richard Feynman inspired foundations in the 1980s
with 1959 speech.
Eric Drexler made the term nanotechnology popular in
1980s

What is Nanotechnology?
Nanotechnology is the study that deals with
dimensions and tolerances of less than 100
nanometers, especially for the manipulation
of an individual atom or molecule

Nanometer-a billionth of a meter
How
small is
1/100000
0000 of a
meter?

Branches of Nanotechnology
Green Nanotechnology- the use of
nanotechnology to enhance environmental
sustainability
Nanoengineering - The practise of
engineering on the nanoscale.
Wet Nanotechnology- involves working up to
large masses of atoms from small ones.
Why do we need Nanotechnology
Security- superior, lightweight materials; advanced
computing; increased situational awareness; powerful
munitons.
Healthcare- diagnostics; novel drugs.
Recources- energy; water.
Examples in action
Sunscreen
Self cleaning glass
Scratch resistant coatings
Antimicrobial bandages
