Tradi ti onal Sampan

Layar Raci ng
The orangs Suku Laut from
Berakit are handling the racing of
Naga Langit, a 7 meters long
Sampan to race around Bintan.
The school owns two Sampan,
one requiring 3 people, the other
smaller can be handled solo. They
are available on request to get a
first hand experience.

The Jong School Sekapur Sirih was founded by Zakir and
Michel Lippitsch to address the need for a platform to teach
and learn the art of the racing Jong, especially for the next
generation of players, the children.
The first of its kind it allows anyone interested in traditional
maritime tradition to get tuition and get a first hand
experience.
The Fl eet of Jong
All the Jongs are real racing Jong competing in
races around the region, some are winners.
Smaller Jongs have been made especially for
children, which are active during the two yearly
races.
The dimensions are all based on human
proportion and geometry and passed on since
thousand of years, a true living history.
