PA Preferred is seeking artwork submissions from student artists to create a poster

conveying the importance of buying agricultural products made or grown in


Pennsylvania.
The PA Preferred mission is to promote and support local agricultural products made or
grown within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. When your family buys products
made or grown in our state, it helps local farmers, food processors and businesses by
creating jobs, strengthening the economy and supporting local communities.

1. CONTEST PERIOD:
Contest begins on October 1, 2013.
Contest ends on November 30, 2013. Artwork submissions must be postmarked
before midnight on November 30, 2013.
Late entries will not be accepted.

2. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Contest is open to all Pennsylvania students enrolled in Grades 3-8.
Students will fall into one of three grade groups, based on the grade that they are
currently enrolled in:
o Grades 3-4
o Grades 5-6
o Grades 7-8
Only one poster per student.
Group posters are not acceptable.

3. THEME:
Students must complete a poster that persuades the viewer to buy local products
made or grown in Pennsylvania (see enclosed Top Reasons to Buy Local poster).
The theme must convey one of the ideas represented on this poster.

4. SPECIFICS FOR ENTRIES:
Originality: Posters must be original. Copyrighted cartoon characters, TV figures
and photographs are not acceptable.
Free-drawn artwork is encouraged.
Words must be spelled correctly.
Medium: Posters may be drawn in marker, crayon, colored pencil, paint pens,
watercolor, ink, acrylic or tempera paint. Bright colors that reproduce well are
best. No glitter glue, 3-D glued objects, tissue paper or any other type of add-ons.
PA Preferred: Poster Contest Grades 3-8
Press-on letters are not acceptable.
Only original artwork may be submitted and cannot have been used commercially
in any other program.
Size: Posters cannot be smaller than 8.5" x 11" and cannot be larger than 11" x
14". Oversized or undersized posters will not be accepted.
2D artwork only.
Presentation: Posters may be on poster paper or drawing paper. The posters will
not be accepted for judging if they are matted, framed or laminated. Posters must
be flat not folded or rolled.
Artwork must be dry and fixed.
o If doing a collage, it must be 2D.
ONLY one entry per student.
Posters must be viable for reproduction by digital printing.
Copyrighted characters, trademarks, logos or copyrighted clip art will not be
accepted (the PA Preferred logo and tagline is permitted).



Note: Some of the artwork may be published, regardless if it is a winning entry.


5. JUDGING:
Impartial judges for the PA Preferred Poster contest are selected by an independent
marketing team. Winners will be notified January 15, 2014. Judging is based on the
following criteria:
Theme: How well was the theme used in the poster?
Design: Originality, composition, color and technique.
Suitability for Reproduction: The grand prize poster may be professionally printed
for statewide recognition and distribution. Bright colors, clear lettering and good
spelling are important.
Students must fill out a Release Form (enclosed) and attach it to the back of
the original artwork. Failure to do so will render artwork ineligible for
voting and judging. Students must also write their name on the back of their
artwork submission.






Semi-finals: Judges will choose two works of art for final judging for each grade
level for a total of six final contestants. These posters will be displayed at the PA
Preferred booth at the Farm Show.
Finalists: Voting for finalists will take place on Facebook and traditional ballots
during the week of the Farm Show: January 4, 2014 through January 11, 2014 in
Harrisburg, PA. Ballot counting will be combined with the number of Facebook
Likes. Not planning to attend the Farm Show? No worries! Encourage your
friends, family members and teachers to visit the PA Preferred facebook page
January 4-11, 2014 and look for the Poster Contest album. Voters will go to the
album and vote by liking their favorite entry.
The entry with the most Likes from each age group, combined with the total
number of traditional ballots from the Farm Show, will be declared the winner,
totaling three (3) winners.
Be creative and have FUN!


6. AWARDS:
The panel of judges will select two semi-finalists from each grade group to
represent the idea of buying local products made or grown in Pennsylvania. (See
Judging details outlined above in section 5.)
o Grades 3-4
o Grades 5-6
o Grades 7-8

One final winner from each of the three grade level will receive a monetary
award. Each grade level winner will win a $100 gift card.

On January 15, 2014, the winner will be announced and receive public
recognition for the artwork on the PA Preferred Facebook page. A press release
will also be sent to the winners local newspaper.


7. USE OF ARTWORK:
Contest participants grant PA Preferred the non-exclusive right to use the image
in online, print or media publications.
Art will be used for the purpose of promoting the concept of purchasing locally
grown/processed foods, through its publications, advertising and Website without
payment or compensation.






Subject to the rights granted to PA Preferred, contest participants retain all other
copyrights and the rights to the original piece. Due to mailing costs, original
artwork will not be returned. Special arrangements may be made for pickup only.

Students must fill out a Release Form (enclosed) and attach it to the back of
the original artwork. Failure to do so will render artwork ineligible for
voting and judging. Students must also write their name on the back of their
artwork submission.


8. DUE DATE:
Artwork must be postmarked no later than November 30,

2013.
