LETTER OF INTENT

To Whom it May Concern

I'm writing this letter to show my desire to apply for the master program at RWTH Aachen for the
winter semester 2011 2012. In the following letter I would like to present my reasons for choosing
this program and to provide a general background about me.

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is XXX. I graduated from Telkom Institute of
Technology, majoring Telecommunication Engineering. I have interested with telecommunication
when I was in senior high school because I want to know how we can communicate with each other
using mobile phone. In addition, telecommunication will always grow up because as a human we need
to communicate with each other.

In my college, I really want to know a lot of communication area and I try to improve my knowledge
in this field with joining in laboratory as an assistant. I have been accepted as assistant in Microwave
and Wireless Laboratory. I learned about Microwave Communication, RF and Microwave Device and
Satellite Communication System and Signal Processing in Communication then made some research
and simulation for microwave communication using Matlab, Microwave and RF Device using Ansoft
HFSS. Besides that I have experienced teaching in lab work and tutorial.

While I was undergraduate student, I interested with wireless communication field, and fortunately
after I graduated from my college, I am working in Telkom Indonesia Research and Development
center as a research assistant in Wireless Laboratory. We are doing some research from European
Commission Seventh Framework Program (FP7) FREEDOM (www.ict-freedom.eu) in collaboration
with the other partners in Europe. Our main research is about femtocell in 4G mobile communication
like LTE and WiMAX. Moreover, my responsibility is doing research in Multimedia Broadcast and
Multicast Service (MBMS) in femtocell environment and try to implement technologies like
cooperative communication, single frequency network, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO).
Furthermore, I interest to do research in this field and then I think my knowledge must be improved
too as a junior researcher.

Therefore, I want to continue my master in Germany because my uncle live there and Germany has a
great reputable in education by research. Besides, there are many research department in
telecommunication, such as Franhoufer Heinrich Hertz Institute, Digital Media Technology which it
can support and link industry with academic. Additionally, RWTH Aachen is top research university in
Germany and has top rank in electrical engineering specifically communication engineering, so I want
to apply to RWTH Aachen. After reading the description of the program, I believe that the courses
offered in the program are simply the ones that meet my area of interest in communication
engineering.

I realize that by join this program as an International Student it will be great experience for me because
i will meet the student from other countries and learn many cultures. In future, I want to be a lecturer
and scientist in my country because in Indonesia still lack of expertise in this field. I believe that this
field has a promising future in developing information and communication not only in Indonesia but
also around the world.
