Mathematics Week 1

Lesson Title: Telling Time and Counting Money




Lesson Length: 1 hour and 30 minutes


Target Audience: 2nd Grade


Instructional Objectives (Content & Technology): Students will be able to tell time from an analog clock as well as
solve problems involving money.


Corresponding AL Course of Study Objectives (National Subject Area Standards) & Technology Standards:
20. Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m. [2-MD7]
21. Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and symbols appropriately.
[2-MD8] Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?


Materials: paper plate, crayons, 2 arrows (1 long and 1 short), brass brad, scissors, pencil


Procedures/Activities:
Make an analog clock
Group work telling time
Money worksheet
Math Worksheet.docx


Evaluation:
Review telling time and answer questions
Observe students during the group activity
Solve problems on the board involving money
Take up money worksheet for a grade


Modifications:
- After completing their in class assignments, accelerated students will work on any other work.
- Special Needs students are assisted by a Special Education aide and have leveled material for their use.
- ESL students will be put with a volunteer partner during in class activities. I will also assist them when
needed.
