Izatt Grade 8 & 9 Band Trip

Rocky Mountain Festival April 2126, 2015

Grade 8 & 9 Band Parents,

Please look over the information below regarding our proposed Band trip to
Banff. We have included a basic itinerary and cost estimate. We would like to
collect a $150 deposit/initial payment by October 31 so we can move forward
with planning. If there is insufficient commitment, this deposit will, of course, be
refunded, but once we have made our group commitment, all payments are
non-refundable. This is necessary to ensure cost stability for all participants.

Rationale
As a part of our students musical growth and development in their final year of
Band at HGI, it has been a tradition to travel. This year, due to smaller numbers in
our Grade 9 group, we are inviting Grade 8 students to join us.
We are hoping to participate in the Rocky Mountain Festival in Banff Alberta. It
is an honour to be asked to participate, as only Bands that can demonstrate a
high level of performance are considered. We have applied and will be notified
by the end of October if we are accepted. The festival includes an opportunity
to perform for and be adjudicated by well respected musicians in a supportive
environment dedicated to musical growth. Students will also have the
opportunity to hear other groups, both student and professional, perform in the
evenings. Traveling together is also a great way for students in an ensemble to
learn to work together as a group.
In addition to our musical activities, we will also have the opportunity to see a
beautiful part of Canada and enjoy some of the recreational activities that the
area has to offer.

When and Who
We are planning a 5 day trip for up to 75 grade 8 & 9 Band students, leaving on
the evening of April 21st and returning in the early afternoon of the 26th.

Transportation
Transportation will be provided by Fehr-Way Tours. The bus will also be available
during our stay for transfers to and from activities.



Cost estimate
Transportation, accommodation, 3 hot breakfasts, one supper $564.00
Festival registration fee $ 60.00
Recreation (varies according to activities) $ 30.00

Total estimate approximately $654.00

Students performing in the J azz Band in Banff will pay an additional $30 Festival
registration fee.

Students will also need money for other meals, snacks etc.

Itinerary (basic outline)

April 21- depart Winnipeg at 9:00 pm
April 22- arrive in Banff at 3:00 pm- two hour stop at Royal Tyrell Museum
-Showcase/ Festival Concert
April 23-Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival
April 24- Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival
April 25- recreation day- Sulphur Mountain Gondola, Hot Springs
-depart Banff 6:00 pm
April 26- arrive Winnipeg at 1:00 pm
