PERSONAL AND CAREER REFLECTION

Personal reflections are actions that seem to have always come natural to me; whether
that is due the fact that I am a very self-critical person or that I am goal driven in everything that
I do, bottom line is it is easy. I feel as though Robbins and Coulter describe my Type A
personality best by saying, Type A personality is characterized by chronic feelings of a sense of
time urgency, an excessive competitive drive, and difficulty accepting and enjoying leisure time
(2014). My personality traits help lead to my ability and want to achieve all my goals, whether
short or long term. While I could say about all of the goals I have for myself (some being logical
and some being as not logical as completing all of my school work for the first two weeks of
November so that I can solely focus on the next Call of Duty game for that plotted time), I am
solely going to focus on some of my more professional/mature goals.
In terms of the next few months, I have two predominant short-term goals: raising my
GPA for the end of the semester and finding an internship for this summer. So far after midterms, my GPA is residing at a 2.7, which is tied for my lowest mid-term of my career at
Methodist. With that said, my current GPA is at a 3.61, showing that mid-terms is always a
turnaround point for me, with this semester being no exception. I plan to study more in the
classes that require my attention most, and crack down on some of my projects that I have due in
the upcoming months. As for my internship, every year it seems as though I have a solid
internship lined up, but it falls through and I am stuck scrambling last minute to figure something
out. Even though this has worked, this year I am determined to have my internship figured out
before winter break. There is a list saved on my hard-drive containing information on ten country
clubs in which I am interested in. If my current choice does not work out, I can simply pull the
next name in line (not to mention that I have one page reports on each club I would like to go to
for background information).

PERSONAL AND CAREER REFLECTION

My long-term goals that I have set have actually been around for quite some time now.
These goals drive not only my short term goals but everything that I do. First and foremost, my
fiance, Emily, and I plan to get married sometime after I graduate in two years. She is the love
of my life and the driver of everything that I stride to achieve. My second goal of achieving
financial security within my career is my second big goal, but it ties into my first goal as well.
Financial security will allow me to pay off my student loans quickly as well as be able to settle
down in a nice location. Once my (then) wife and I are financially secure, we can then try to
have our first child with the comfort that we are able to provide for him/her by every means
necessary. As for where this will happen, odds lean towards New York/New Jersey, due to her
desired career on Broadway and the business industrys large ties in the northeast, but wherever
life takes us will be fine with me.
My mission statement is as followed: I am committed to a standard of excellence in both
business and life that is aimed towards setting the bar at every opportunity. Honesty and respect
for individuals is a key part of what makes this standard possible. Going above and beyond at
any point possible and having an attitude that can make something good out of any situation are
qualities necessary to make any part of my overall purpose function. I will continue to stride
towards new bounds of my life and my career and continue to try to be successful at everything
that I do.
