New Project Launched

Important Dates

This week, students embarked on a new project called Bucket

List. The driving question is, What is something you want to
accomplish in your life and how can you make it happen?
Students brainstormed about things they want to achieve in the
future. Some decided they want to open a restaurant or become a
professional athlete. Others want to visit a far-off land or go to a
certain college. The key to this project will be figuring out the
how to make it happen partthe steps involved in reaching
these ambitious goals.

12.9: Winter Concert at 12 p.m.

The Bucket List project is due on

December 15th. Students can work
on their project at home, adding
information to a research document
in their Google Drive. They are
expected to use at least three websites, a book and a community
resource (knowledgeable person
in the community) and then give
evidence of their learning in a
manner of their choosing.

Holiday Emporium on
December 17th
On December 17th, students
will have a chance to
purchase gently used items for
a dollar each at the AECS
Holiday Emporium. These
items can then be wrapped as
holiday presents for family and
friends. Each class will have a
chance to shop during the
school day. This is a fun fundraising activity organized by
AECS parent Liz Wabindato.
You can send in items for the
store with your child anytime
and Liz will keep them until
the Emporium set-up day on
December 16th. We also need
wrapping paper, tape and
bows to wrap presents.
Parents can help set up on the
16th from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Evidence of Learning Night Phenomenal

On November 19th, AECS held an Evidence of Learning
night to showcase the Wisconsin state history projects our
students have worked on for the past several weeks.
Students surpassed our highest expectations with outstanding presentations. Charter School consultant James
Lewicki wrote, I have been to hundreds of evidence of
learning nights and tonight was certainly one of the best!
The students hit it out of the ballpark. We couldnt agree
more!

Winter Concert on
December 9th at noon
On Tuesday, December 9th,
AECS children will perform in
the annual Winter Concert at
noon in the gym. Students will
be eating lunch early, at 10:10
a.m. Therefore, they should eat
an early breakfast. You may
bring your child home after the
concert (tell the teacher).
Students staying on until 3 p.m.
will need a snack due to the
early lunch.

Images from Discovery Day

Parents completed a scavenger hunt form to document

what they learned from the 85 or so displays around the
school. The responses indicated both the depth of the
research students did and the skill displayed in their
presentations. Congratulations to all students on their
hard work and stellar performances and thanks to all the
parents for coming and learning with us.

What to ask your students about this week:

What is a metaphor? What metaphors did you make
about your family? How many feet and how many inches
are in a yard? What are all the multiples of 7? What are
three items on your bucket list? What are you doing
your project on? What are you singing for the Winter
Concert? Why is it important to compost? What kinds
of things can be composted? How is sauerkraut made?
What are some of the words you are learning to spell?
What have you learned this year during Discovery Day?
