What is important about the opening sequence of a film?

The opening sequence of a film is important because it is used to establish the tone and the
mood of the film, which allows the audience to settle in and be more intrigued into what will be
occurring next. The opening scene of a film can be used to grab the audiences attention
without over exciting them so that they feel the film has peaked and has no where to go from
here. The most successful film openings develop and sense of intrigue that leaves the
audience desperate to find out more about the story and the characters. Some directors use
foreshadowing, this is when they hint out parts of the movie that may happen in the end of the
film, this leaves the audience wondering what will happen there for making them watch on.
