Goal:
Introduce Multicultural Awareness

Objective:
Children will investigate the elements of music. Creating a Rain tube

Transition Plan:
Play CD with rain sounds (relaxation music nature sounds)
Procedure:
Teachers give the children a paper towel tube and let them decorate it with markers and sticker.
Close one end off with a milk cap. Reinforce with duck tape. Let the children partially fill the
tube with beans or even dried cereal. Close the other end with a cap. Then let them flip. It
sounds just like raindrops!

Advanced Preparation:
Collect empty paper towel tubes

List Materials:
Paper towel tubing, plastic lids from milk jug, tape, beans or rice or cereal, felt tip markers.

Developmental Benefits:
Preschool and kindergarten children use creativity, hand eye coordination, fine motor and
sensory skills when they create these instruments. African, Chilean and Indian cultures make
traditional use of Rain sticks
