Principals Message..

To all the parents, carers and community

of Glendale East Public School I would
like to take this opportunity to thank you
all for the wonderful year that we have
had teaching your kids.
Whilst at times there have been
challenges the positives far out weigh the
negatives and it is the happy smiling faces
of your kids that keep all the staff coming
back each day! I would also like to
acknowledge all the staff at our school as
we strive to make GEPS the best place it
can possibly be.
From my family to your family have a safe
and Merry Christmas, enjoy the holidays
and we will see you all back at school on
the 28th January for that I am sure will be
another awesome year!

Year 6 Transition

transition to high school day
Wednesday and this was the first

future classmates for year 7, 2015.

By all accounts the students had a

wonderful day and are now even more
than ready to tackle the adventures of high
school!

The P&C have had a fantastic year of

fundraising. Throughout the year we have
had our Easter Raffle, Mothers Day and
Fathers Day stalls, our Halloween Disco
and our Carols Night which is being held
tonight. A lot of hard work and
organisation goes into all the fundraising
activities, and a lot of preparation is done
behind the scenes as well. I would like to
thank all the people who have volunteered
their time to help out at these events. Your
time and efforts are always greatly
appreciated.
Our Canteen has also had a very busy
year, doing lunch orders and holding Red
Days. A very big thank you to Shaz for all
your hard work, effort, time and
commitment to our school and our kids. I
would like to thank all the canteen
volunteers who have helped out
throughout the year. Your time is also
greatly appreciated.
I would like to thank all the executives of
the P&C for all your help, hard work and
commitment over the past year. A huge
thank you to Rachael, our Treasurer, not
only does Rachael look after our money,
pay the bills, keep track of all our
financials, she also helps out at the
canteen on a regular basis and is at every
fundraising event. She is a fantastic asset
to our P&C. Thank you Rachael.
Lastly, I would like to thank all the parents,
carers and family members who have dug
deep and supported our fundraising
events. All your contributions to the P&C
over the past few years have raised
approximately $25,000. I am happy to
announce that our play equipment will be
installed for our kids in early 2015.
Congratulations and thank you to
everyone for all your hard work.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas
and a safe New Year.

Swimming Fun Day

What a wonderful day was had by all
students that attended the swimming fun
day. All the kids took part in a variety of
events and tried their hand at all the
different strokes with some standout
performances. A number of kids will be
going through to the zone carnival early
next year. Thanks to Mrs johns for her
fabulous organisation.

Volunteer Morning Tea

Thank you to all the parents and

volunteers that attended our morning
tea on Tuesday. It was the largest
turnout for any morning tea in my time at
Glendale East and a lot of fun was had
by all.

Year 6 Camp
The week before last year 6 travelled to
Morisset, for their annual camp. When we
got there we started with the challenge
ropes where Chris and Caitlin C faced
their fear of being high up in the trees,
when you got to the end you would zip
down the flying fox. Straight after lunch
we went canoeing and played some
games in the water. Most of us capsized.
After that we went to the giant drop where
you had to climb up a 13m tower and jump
off. Mrs Mantle, Caitlin, Chris and Daneka
over came their fear of heights. The rest
of the activities for the day where the flying
fox and giant swing. The next day we had
archery where Martin hit bullseye and he
was left handed using a right handed bow!
The best activity after camp was Mud
World but we don't want to give too much
away for next years campers.
Overall it was a great experience for all
year 6s to remember.

Year 6 Farewell
Yesterday Year 6 celebrated their
farewell luncheon at St Thomas Hall,
Cardiff. The students enjoyed a lovely
lunch catered by the church ladies and
shared lovely memories of their time at
Glendale East Public School. Students
finished the afternoon with some
fantastic dancing and eating lots of
yummy cake!

News from 2/3A..

Year students visited the Honeysuckle Museum to explore the early settling of
Newcastle.

Year 3 students travelled to The Rocks in Sydney in support of work completed in

class on early settlement of Australia. Our Guides were well informed and retold
the adventures of early colonisation telling many stories. Our visit to Hyde Park
Barracks was a highlight with students allocated a hammock in the sleeping
quarters to experience what it may have been like to share a room with 50 or 60
other tired people.

Year 2 students travelled to the Australian Reptile Park as part of our investigation
into different animals. We had a lot of fun visiting the spider exhibit and scaring
ourselves.

Our visit to the Life Education Centre reinforced some of the values we had been
exploring in class. The presenter used puppets and Healthy Harold to explain the
importance of taking steps towards keeping healthy and living an active lifestyle.
The presenter delivered a very explicit message about keeping safe around drugs
and medicines.

Students were presented with an at home task in term 3 where the expectation
was to create their animal living in its wild habitat as well as a two minute
supporting presentation to be presented to the class. We laid all the creations out
for the school and community to enjoy. This proved to be a motivating and
rewarding experience for each of the students who participated.

Lifeguards from NSW Lifesaving visited our classroom and gave a presentation
on keeping safe at the beach. They showed us how to look at a beach and
recognise where the rips are and reminded us about the importance of swimming
between the flags.

The swimming carnival at Speers Point Pool was awesome. It was a bit hot but
nice and cool in the water.

We investigated shadows and how they move during the day as we needed to
prove that the sun is stationery while the earth revolves around it.
