Overview
Purpose

To show the required sequence of delivery of a plans products and identify

dependencies between those products including any external products.

Contents
Advice

The product flow diagram is shown over page.

The Product Breakdown Structure should be derived from the Project Brief and
Project Quality Plan.
Ensure that:
The topmost product from the Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) is at
the end of the Product Flow Diagram (PFD)
All external products are identified and the dependencies understood
All bottom-level products on the PBS are identified on the PFD
All integration products identified on the PBS are shown on the PFD
All products identified in the PFD are identified as products in the PBS
There are no products without dependencies
Dependencies have been identified at a level suitable to that of the plan
of which the PFD is a part
Dependencies are consistent with the derivation fields (from the
Product Description) of all the products
Note that:
Arrows indicate dependencies between the products
The External must be clearly distinguished from the products
developed by the plan.
The PRINCE2 convention is for project products to be shown as
rectangles and external products as ellipses.
