Meaning of PE

Physical education is a course taken during primary and secondary educationthat


encourages psychomotor learning in a play or movement exploration setting.

Objectives of PE
Physical Development- an individual who participates actively will develop and maintain good health and a high
level of physical fitness.

Social Development-provides opportunities for the development of desirable social traits needed for adjustment
to the social life in general.

Mental Development-the individual develops his mental capacities as he learns the mechanical principles
underlying movement

Emotional Development-offers opportunities for self-expression and emotional mastery

Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is the ability in which your body can deal with day to day tasks at varying difficulty
levels and tempos.

Components of Physical Fitness


Cardiovascular endurance is the ability of the heart and lungs to work together to provide the needed
oxygen and fuel to the body during sustained workloads.
Muscular strength is the amount of force a muscle can produce.
Muscular endurance is the ability of the muscles to perform continuous without fatiguing.
Flexibility is the ability of each joint to move through the available range of motion for a specific joint.
Body composition is the amount of fat mass compared to lean muscle mass, bone and organs.

Philippine Physical Fitness Test


- is a test designed to measure physical strength, agility, and endurance. They are commonly employed in
educational institutions as part of the physical education curriculum, in medicine as part of diagnostic
testing, and as eligibility requirements in fields that focus on physical ability such as military or police.
