History of the

Calculator
Spencer D. Weisbrod

I chose the calculator because there are

many different forms and brands.
Calculators are used so often in everyday
life, they become easy to ignore.

Basic Binary Calculator, made by me.

In most calculators, there is only one

central processor. Some higher end
calculators can have 2 or more.
The processors are made by the same
company that the calculators are.
The central processor takes binary
information (from the keypad) and
calculates it and then turns it back into
normal numbers.

History
The original calculator was the abacus, a simple
tool for the calculation of numbers.
In about 1642, Wilhelm Schickard invented the
mechanical calculator and then decades later, it
was improved by Blaise Pascal.
In the 1700s, a working, four operation
(addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division) machine was built using gears and
wheels.

History (cont.)
During the industrial revolution, calculators
were able to be mass produced and better
materials were available.
In 1820, the Arithmometer was invented and
was released to production in 1851.
The first easily portable mechanical calculator
was the Curta calculator.
In the 1940s and 1950s, the electronic
calculator was introduced.

I think that the TI 84 plus C silver edition

is the best because it can compute more
functions than the others and you can
program it.
I think that in the future, calculators will
become smaller, faster and have longer
battery lives and better photovoltaic
cells.
