Empires Map Analysis

World History Honors 2

Title: The Roman Empire in 117 AD

Interpretation: This map tells me that the Roman Empire was very spread out.
Compass Statement: The Roman Empire went mostly east to west, and
stayed at about the same latitude.
Key Statement: The key tells me that most of the Roman Empire was made
up of Imperial provinces.

Title: China Han Dynasty 206 B.C.-220 A.D.

Interpretation: The Han Dynasty, even though it was very large, was also very
centralized.
Compass Statement: The Han Dynasty went more north to south, at about
the same longitude.
Key Statement: I see that the Great Wall went through the region.

CCC Analysis:

Compare: Both of these maps show very large empires in the Northern
hemisphere.
Contrast: The map of the Han Dynasty shows all the way back into 206 B.C.,
and the map of the Roman Empire only shows 117 A.D.
Conclude: This map makes me think that most empires in the late B.C. era
and the early A.D. era were very large and successful.
