Mini Design Project

Problem Statement
Zach and I are going to purify dirty
water and make it clean without
using any kind of power source. So
we have 1000 ml of water and we
must purify at least 250 ml of it in
under 5 minutes. Doing this to find
ways of purifying water where this is
not an abundance of it and may not
be a way of using power to do it. So
using things naturally found or made

Gantt Chart

Research Solutions
Filters can use fine soils to filter
water.
Filters that use fibers or cloth that
filters water because of small space
for water to go through.
Multiple stage filters give the water
the same stages just multiple times
to go through it.

Solutions Considered

Ceramic Filters
Solar based filters
Evaporation
DIY charcoal filter
Triple bandana filter
Distrilation

Decision Matrix

Justification
We went with my design because the
fiber of the cloth and coffee filters
would work together as the cloth
filters out the large stuff while the
coffee filter does the refining and
filtration for the small stuff. When
combined these things will filter the
water perfectly and create a filtration
system that filters water under 10
ntu.

Filtration Performance

1st- 29 ntu
2nd-119 ntu
3rd- 1.9 ntu
Final Test- 2.0 ntu

Ease to Setup
Very easy to setup. Just took 2 half
bottles on one half we put cloth
inside and on top of it and attached
along side with rubber band. Then in
the second bottle we put 4 coffee
filters in order to filter. Then the
water drained out of the cap into the
beaker to be tested.
