Header and Footer

Objective: A header and footer is a form of text located at the top and bottom margins of a
Microsoft Word document. It is used to add useful and important information such as date and
time, authors name and more to a word document.
Uses: Page number, letter address, document title, company logo, etc.
Required Materials: Mac or PC running Microsoft Office 2013 with Word
Header and Footer Instructions:
Header Instructions:
1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Create a new blank document
3. Click INSERT on top left corner of menu bar

4. Located on the right side, click Header

5. Select preferred template or style

6. Default text will appear in the Header margin

7. Double click on the default text

8. Delete default text and type in your desired text

9. Click Close Header and Footer button located on the far right side

Footer Instructions:
1. Click INSERT on top left corner of menu bar.
2. Located on the right, click the Footer tab.

3. Select preferred style.

4. Default text will appear in the Footer margin:

5. Double click on the default text.


6. Delete default text and type in your new desired text.

7. Click Closer Header and Footer button located on the far right side.

FAQs
Q: How do you delete a header and/or footer/
A: Click on the insert tab. In the header and footer section, click header or footer, depending on
which ever you want to delete, and click remove at the bottom of the drop down menu.

Q: How do you edit a closed header or footer?


A: Double click on the upper margin to open the header or double click on the lower margin to
open the footer.
