oday, March 20th, marks

the official fi rst day of
Spring and southern Manitoba has been fortunate to
be experiencing spring-like
temperatures for some time
now. While there is still a
chill in the air, the heat from
the blaring sun has certainly
made an impressive dent in
the amount of snow on the
ground.
Last weekend, warmer
than usual temperatures
broke a number of records
throughout the province
with the hot spot being Portage la Prairie recording a
high of 16.6 degrees last Saturday.
The recent warm spell
had a number of Manitobans posting now and
then photos on social
media showing the difference in weather conditions and snow amounts
between March 2014 and
March 2015. Following that
trend, we looked back and
pulled up a couple photos
which were taken at the
Minnedosa Campground
during the campground offi ce renovation on March
24th, 2014. Returning to the
site this week, it is obvious
how much further along
the spring thaw is this year.
I also recall a St. Patricks
Day snowstorm this week
in 2013.
Lets hope the recent
weather trend continues so
we can enjoy an early spring
leading into a long, hot
summer!

The above photo,

taken this week shows
very little snow near
the Minnedosa
Campground Office.
Quite a different scene
than the photo at
right, which was
taken during the
offices renovation
just one year ago.
