UST Librarians earn Masters degree

Last May 2014, five of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Librarians finally obtained
their Masters degree in Library and Information Science (non-thesis program) at the
UST Graduate School after accomplishing their special research while one librarian
graduated at the Baliuag University last October 2013.
Ms. Ma. Cecilia D. Lobo, the acquisitions librarian and member of the Library Council,
made a study on the collaborative strategies and techniques that should be developed
between the librarians and library coordinators that would contribute to the instructional,
learning and research needs of the clientele. Her special project was titled, Empowering
the Faculty Representative/Library Coordinator in collection development.
Ms. Raquel B. Lontoc, assistant head librarian of the Humanities section, identified
various user learning behaviors in reference to the kind of library space design that the
UST Miguel de Benavides Library could adapt. The study entitled, Library space
assessment through user learning behaviors in the UST Miguel de Benavides Library.
Ms. Lourdes Fatima C. Ramos, head librarian of the UST High School, wrote a paper
entitled Reading habits, interests, and attitudes of UST High School Students: a basis
for Library program enhancement. It aims to enhance the librarys reading programs
that will encourage the high school students to read.
Ms. Juanita D. Subaldo, head librarian of the Humanities section determined the
usefulness of e-books as learning tools. The study, E-Books as Classroom Textbooks:
An assessment on the perception of Grade 7 students of UST High School, may be
used to improve the learning process or style to uphold students interest and ensure
the effectiveness of learning instruction.
Ms. Marivic G. Usita, head librarian of the Science and Technology section, made a
study entitled, Research competencies of the librarians of the UST Miguel de
Benavides Library: An assessment. It aims to examine the preparedness of the
librarians in conducting research and to identify programs and activities that could
engage them in research work.
Ms. Ginalyn M. Santiago, assistant head librarian of Antonio Vivencio del Rosario UST
Heritage Library, finally finished her Masters degree at the Baliuag University last
October 2013.
