1915 - 2011
Memories of Our Father
From our earliest memories to the present, we remember our Father
as being a pillar of strength and the guiding light of our upbringing.
We realize that He is no longer with us in body; however, He will
always remain a strong influence in the way we live our lives.
Anthony will always remain alive in our thoughts, words and actions.
When we talked about life and what was important, number one was
a close, harmonious family. Love of family teaches the importance of
being non-judgmental, supportive, and sharing.
He was a perfect Father and Grandfather. He loved everyone for
who they were and their individuality. His joy was in giving. He
treated everyone like family.
Thank you Dad for being there for all of us all the time.
The DeFazio Family

Tony DeFazio Inspired Us

Our community was saddened to hear of the death of Anthony Tony DeFazio. His commitment to Troy and the Capital Region was an inspiration to all who knew him to his four
children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors, and the many people he was associated with over
the years in countless organizations such as the Sons of Italy, the Knights of Columbus and
the Third Order of St. Francis. One thing is for sure, Tony wasnt just a member of a group,
he was a contributor who faithfully attended meetings and events, working dutifully on projects and assignments, proudly representing his organizations at local community events and
in the offices of presidents and governors (and, no doubt, a few popes as well). With his wife
Josie he prepared and organized many meals for St. Anthonys parish and played a key role in
helping to change the U. S. immigration quota system. Their reach was beyond our community since they raised funds for the Boys Town of Italy and Earthquake Relief in both Naples
and Sicily. By example, which is the best teacher, he inspired his children and grandchildren
to be actively involved in community service. We are all the better for knowing Tony and
Josie, whether it was by being their friend or neighbor, working alongside them, attending
religious services with them, or visiting them at the import store. Our heartfelt condolences go
out to the DeFazio family.

World War II who were residents of the 11th ward during the
war who want their names added to the Third Street monument. Employees of Grethen-Cahrenger Memorials will inscribe the names. There will be a nominal charge based on the

along to relatives and friends and neighbors who are likely to
know veterans who qualify and are interested in being remembered on the recently restored monument. Sam and members
of the 11th Ward Memorial Committee are working toward

Life Explained
Submitted by Frank Visco
On the first day, God created
the dog and said:
Sit all day by the door of
your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks
past. For this, I will give you
a life span of twenty years.'
The dog said: 'That's a long
time to be barking. How
about only ten years and I'll
give you back the other ten?'
So God agreed.
On the second day, God
created the monkey and said:
Entertain people, do
tricks, and make them laugh.
For this, I'll give you a
twenty-year life span.'
The monkey said: 'Monkey
tricks for twenty years?
That's a pretty long time to
perform. How about I give
you back ten like the Dog
did?'
And God agreed.
On the third day, God created the cow and said:
You must go into the field
with the farmer all day long
and suffer under the sun,
have calves and give milk to
support the farmer's family.
For this, I will give you a
life span of sixty years.'
The cow said: 'That's kind
of a tough life you want me
to live for sixty years. How
about twenty and I'll give
back the other forty?'
And God agreed again.
On the fourth day, God created humans and said:
Eat, sleep, play, marry and

enjoy your life. For this, I'll

give you twenty years.'
But the human said: 'Only
twenty years? Could you
possibly give me my twenty,
the forty the cow gave back,
the ten the monkey gave
back, and the ten the dog
gave back; that makes
eighty, okay?'
Okay,' said God, 'You
asked for it.'
So that is why for our first
twenty years we eat, sleep,
play and enjoy ourselves.
For the next forty years we
slave in the sun to support
our family.. For the next ten
years we do monkey tricks
to entertain the grandchildren.. And for the last ten
years we sit on the front
porch and bark at everyone.

Enjoy a day of stickball and music.

The day will be highlighted with a celebrity stickball home run hitting contest at 4:00 p.m!
Bring your friends and family!
Our goal for 2011 is to raise over $10,000 in non-perishable food items!
$8,500 was raised in 2010 and $4,500 was raised in 2009.
How can you participate? Just bring a donation of non-perishable food items to help our local food pantries. They
are facing tough challenges today trying to support an increasing number of families with food for their tables. Your
donation will make a difference.
We hope teams will sign up to play in a stickball tournament in the Little Italy Market Place from early morning to
late afternoon on Saturday. Teams are also asked to make a contribution of non-perishable food items as entry into
the tournament.
Local celebrities will be asked to compete in a stickball challenge to see who can raise the most donations.
In these hard times we realize money is tight, so we hope you will take a look in your cupboards and pantries to see
what you can donate. If youre a college student preparing to leave for the summer, please consider donating
non-perishable food items accumulated during the school year.
