Letter of Thanks
Our 3rd annual Christmas in Little Italy was special this year due to Tracy Neitzel, Director
of Joseph House and the staff and tenants of the Hill Street Inn. They opened their hearts and
their home to the community. The tenants started preparing for the event by making decorations, decorating the Christmas tree and baking cookies.
Brother Philip Hira from St. Anthonys started the ceremony by blessing the Ceppo which
was made by the students of Questar and Willa Davey delighted the crowd in an authentic Italian Shepherd outfit while coming down Liberty Street hill playing the bagpipes. We then had
the lighting of the Christmas tree, sang Christmas Carols to music played by John Chupka on
his accordion and had chestnuts roasted by Jerry Favata. Rocco DeFazio read an inspiring
Italian Christmas story about why God chose Shepherd's to welcome our Lord.
We proceeded into the Inn and were treated to an array of cookies, drinks and munchies. Claire
Davis read and acted out her rendition of LaBefana the Italian Christmas Witch. Andrea Daley
was selling her handmade Victorian Stroll hats. We ended the night with a slideshow from Professor Philip DiNovo from the Italian American Heritage Association.
No event is successful without member participation. Thank You to Rocco DeFazio, Marion
Field, Michael Esposito, Jean Kreuger, Sharon Bates, David Graham, Jerry Favata, Dan and
Jenn Franklin, and Joe Popson
