1 Introduce euphemisms by having partners turn
and talk, sharing what they think it means
2 Bring the class back to whole group and have
students share out
3 Show the short video on Euphemisms. They
do mention clichs, so be prepared for what a
clich is
4 Students should gather on carpet. Share the
definition from the anchor chart. Students
should copy this into their journals
5 Discuss with students different ways that we
replace unpleasant sayings with more
pleasant expressions
6 Using anchor chart, students should match the
euphemism with the meaning (sticky note).
Check matches with partner
7 Give handout with 10 euphemisms that
students need to identify and tape into their
journals
