P6 Unit 15

After completing the 3 stages of the RIBA, I hope to work in an architectural firm. However I must go
through a series of training before I am legally allowed to work as an architect.
Induction Training
I will have to go through induction training as I do not have any experience in the current architectural
firm. This will enlighten me with the health & safety and emergency procedures.
Appraisal
Whilst working with the firm I will have regular appraisal which is simply analysing my work and
making sure I am on the right track. The person appraising my work will inform me how to improve my
work or teach me new methods and techniques which will make life as an architect easier.
Shadowing
Shadowing architect will give me an insight to what it is actually like being a professional architect.
After a few sessions of shadowing I will be acknowledged of what equipment and other accessories I
will need when working full time.
E- Learning
Internet learning will be useful as I will be able to work at home. This will consist of a variety of
different tests and exams I will have to complete in order to work with the firm.
On the job training
On the job training is self explanatory; this is simply learning how to function whilst working. For
example learning how to use different types of equipment or procedures used when dealing with
clients.
Off the job training
This type of training is what you will use when you are not working. It may consist of different methods
the firm uses to communicate with each other or with external people. The employee is taken away
from the work environment to be trained.
