An adverb is a descriptive

word that adds more

information to a verb.

a) Adverbs of Manner
These tell us how things are done
Example :
(i) How did she talk to the teacher?
(ii) She talked to the teacher politely.

silently, loudly, gracefully,
sweetly, soundly, happily,
sadly, neatly, softly

Adverbs of Time
These tell us when something happens.
Example :
(i) When did he finish the essay?
(ii) He finished the essay yesterday.

every day, every afternoon,
just now, last night, last
week, tomorrow, next
week, soon, later

Adverbs of Frequency
These tell us how often something

happens.
Example : (i) How often do you play
basketball?
(ii) I hardly play basketball.

sometimes, often, usually,
always, twice
