Camping Trip
On Wednesday the 9th of September, all of the fourth year students received their Junior Cert results, but
shortly after congratulating each other we set off for our camping trip. We almost couldnt fit all our bags
in the two buses we packed so much!
We arrived at Lough Dan, set up our tents and then ate lunch. We took in our surroundings while hanging by
the tyre swing and posing for pictures. In the afternoon, the group set out on a 2 hour walk, through bushy
paths and down steep hills. When we came back, we cooked our first dinners of the trip. Later in the night
we gathered around a bonfire to roast marshmallows and chat. We sang with the guitar to Wonderwall and
High Hopes, no matter how out of tune we were. We settled down to bed eventually.
Morning came, and we woke up bright and early
to get ready for our twenty two kilometre walk
for our Gaisce. About three hours into the walk,
we stopped for lunch by the lake. The journey
back following this break was where the falls,
tumbles and muddy slips occurred for many in
the fields and bogs. We returned to our site, tired
but relieved!
Some of the guys and girls went for a swim in the
lake, and it was freezing cold but still refreshing
after the five hour walk. It was our last night, and
there was a chilled vibe in the air when wed had
our showers and dinner. The bonfire was lit
again, music was played and people danced. We
sat around the fire again and talked. The teachers
kindly made us all burgers before we headed for
the sleeping bags.
The next morning we packed up, cleaned and
headed home. Thanks to all the teachers that
camped with us, the trip was an experience that
we won't forget.
