Bag Packing for The SVP

On Friday the 16th of October, most transition year students took part in bag
packing in Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt. The bag packing was in aid of St Vincent
de Paul. There were many different time slots to make sure our school could earn
as much funds for such an amazing cause. We felt that SVP is such a worthwhile
cause as it helps people less fortunate in our local community. Some of us took
part in the time slot 2pm till 4pm and it was very busy and tiring. The customers
we catered for were very smiley and caring and loved the idea of young people
helping out in the local community. We really enjoyed the day out and loved
helping people with their bags especially some of the elderly people.

On Saturday 17th October

the Senior 2s had a brilliant
match winning 4-3 congrats
girls! The senior 3s had a
very strong training session.
For the Juniors, the Bs drew
their match 1-1 while the Cs
won their match 3-0.

Green Schools Meeting

A number of Transition Year students that are part of the Green Schools committee,
took part in a traffic audit with Ali, a representative from Irish Green Schools. We
walked down the Thornhill road and inspected the conditions of the road and
footpaths. At the moment, The Green Schools committee are trying to attain their
travel flag so we are making a conscious effort to help students, parents and staff
become aware of cycling, walking and carpooling to school. This audit helped us to
see if there were any improvements we could make regarding road safety for its
users.

St Gerards Day
On Wednesday, we had our annual St Gerards Day. This day is a day to
celebrate the patron saint St Gerard Majella. In the morning, we had a
whole school table quiz with the teams consisting of students from 1st
to 6th year. There was much laughter and fun had. We then boarded
buses which brought us to Sugarloaf Mountain and we walked over
the shoulder to the GAA club which was a great experience. We then
came back to the school and were greeted with hot chocolate and
cake. That evening, we had a full school mass to celebrate St Gerard
Majella. The choir sung and there were lovely readings.
