Second Grade News for

October 2015
Classroom Happenings
We are through our first month of school, and have begun working on all
areas of the 1st grade curriculum. In Social Studies we are learning about
Rules, who makes them and why we have them, along with how our
government works, symbols of our country, and citizenship. We will
begin our first Science unit in a couple of weeks. We are learning about
our math facts to 10, and will begin to use some addition strategies for
making 10, and crossing 10 over the next couple of weeks. We are
working on independent reading for a sustained time, as well as meeting
in small guided groups to work on needed skills, and enjoying read
alouds during whole group instruction. We have been busy with our
handwriting, and then practicing these new skills as we have started our
writing curriculum, working on narrative writing. Keep up the great work
at home of supporting your child with daily homework, and signing their
homework log.

Halloween Parade and Parties
Just a reminder that your child may not wear their costume to school,
and cannot wear them home if riding the bus home. If your childs
costume has a prop that is a weapon it must be kept at home as we do
not allow even toy weapons on school grounds. Please make sure that
your childs costume is labeled as many children have similar costumes.
Individual classroom party and planning information will come home
soon.
Fall Weather
The weather is changing and the temps are falling with the leaves!
Please make sure your child is dressed to be outdoors every day. Please
label your childs outdoor wear, as they do not always recognize their
own coats and jackets.

Daily Snack
Please remember to send a healthy snack to school daily with your child.
We eat lunch very early and little tummies get very hungry in the
afternoon!
