The Creative Type.

Prompt: Romeo & Juliet ends tragically, but for this prompt you get to imagine that it doesn’t.
Here you’ll combine creative writing with textual analysis, by rewriting the ending of the play.
You may write it as a play (with lines, etc.) or a short story. The ending must make logical sense
(in the context of Shakespeare’s play), and you must supplement your short story with a 1 page
“Here’s why what happened in my ending could have really happened.” You must cite specific
details from the play. Exemplary stories will mimic Shakespeare’s style, using analogies,
alliteration, rhyme, etcetera.

Rubric.
Point breakdown: Rough Draft (15) + Final Draft (15) = Total: 30 points.

15 A 15 has all the qualities of a 14, but is more mature in style and literary devices and has no errors.
14 A 14 displays an original interpretation of the text and creates a vivid, interesting finish to the play. It uses
literary devices (metaphor, similes, rhyme, etcetera), varied sentence structure, and a clear, original style.
The story is organized and makes sense (as do your explanations). It has little to no errors in punctuation,
formatting (MLA), and is 4 pages in length.
13 A 13 is not as developed as a 14, lacking some of the maturity in creativity or style.
12 A 12 has all the qualities of an 11, but is more mature in thought and creativity.
11 An 11 displays a good interpretation of the text, yet lacks a clear focus. It shows original thought, but is
unorganized, has a plain style, and includes grammatical and punctuation errors. You don’t give reasons for
your choices. It is formatted correctly (MLA), but is not the proper length.
10 A 10 is not as developed as an 11, showing a deficiency in organization and focus.
09 A 9 has all the qualities of an 8, but is more mature in thought and creativity.
08 An 8 displays an effort to interpret the text, yet does not achieve a coherent focus (or misinterprets the text).
It has glaring grammatical errors that interfere with the flow of the paper. It does not meet the standards for
formatting (MLA) and length.
07 A 7 is not as developed as an 8, marked by errors and a lack of organization.
06
01 A 6 - 1 displays a clear lack of effort or thought.
