Prompt: In a 2 page paper, write about an event from your childhood. Emphasize a small
moment, a 2x2 moment from your past. Focus on sensory details (sights, sounds, smells),
dialogue, and literary devices (simile, metaphor, alliteration, etc) to show the reader your world.
Consider your audience and what they may not know. A great paper will draw the reader in, will
vividly describe the scene, and will end felling complete.

Point breakdown: 25 points (2x’s number below + 5 for Memory Map Drawing).

10 A 10 has all the qualities of a 9, but has exemplary style and effectively uses sensory details, dialogue, and
literary devices. It has no errors.
09 A 9 vividly describes a scene from your childhood. It uses some sensory details, dialogue, and literary
devices, varied sentence structure, and a clear, original style. It considers its audience, making clear aspects
that may not be clear. The story is organized and makes sense. It has little to no errors in punctuation,
formatting (MLA), and is 2 pages in length.

08 A 8 is not as developed as a 9, lacking some maturity in creativity or style.


07 A 7 has all the qualities of a 6, but is more mature in thought and creativity.
06 An 6 displays an attempt to describe a moment from your past, yet lacks a clear focus. It shows original
thought, but is unorganized, has a plain style, and includes grammatical and punctuation errors. It is
formatted correctly (MLA), but is not the proper length.
05 A 5 is not as developed as an 6, showing a deficiency in organization and focus.
04 A 4 has all the qualities of an 3, but is more mature in thought and creativity.
03 An 3 displays an effort to describe a moment in your past, yet does not achieve a coherent focus. It has
glaring grammatical errors that interfere with the flow of the paper. It does not meet the standards for
formatting (MLA) and length.
02 A 2 is not as developed as an 3, marked by errors and a lack of organization.
01 A 1 displays a clear lack of effort or thought.
