The campers learned about pumpkins through a STEM investigation where they counted ribs, measured circumference and weight, made predictions, and recorded data. They discovered that pumpkins float. The campers then started their own pumpkin patch with other first graders. Homework includes a responsibility chart and library book AR test. Upcoming events are parent-teacher conferences during spirit week the week of November 16th.

We used a lot of STEM procedures (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) this week with our pumpkin investigations. We learned how to count our pumpkins ribs, measure their circumference and weight, make predictions, record data, and estimate. Whew! The investigation that shocked us most is that pumpkins really DO float! After a week of researching with them, we took our pumpkins for a little walk outside and started our own pumpkin patch with the other first graders! Thanks to the camp counselors who were able to help make this research happen, as well as Mr. Howard for donating the pumpkins. Sharing a toast with my young authors!

I will have work done by your campers displayed in the hall, so be sure to come a couple of minutes earlier or stay later to see it. The kids journals will be in the hall as well for you to peruse and jot them a quick note of pride. I look forward to chatting with you about your children!
