JOB DESCRIPTION:

Chief Engineer (Renovation and Maintenance Engineer):

Directs all engineering, renovation, and maintenance functions of a large 45,000 sq. ft.
commercial retail property, which goes under frequent structural and interior
renovations and requires ongoing extensive maintenance. The property has high
ceilings with mezzanine; includes large retail space, offices, warehouse, freezers, and
refrigeration room; has high capacity electrical wiring, hood systems, sprinkler systems,
and multiple rooftop HVAC units.

Consults Management and Sales team regarding renovation and maintenance projects to
set construction objectives and to ensure that the retail floor modification meets the
needs of Sales team.

Prepares internal cost estimates of proposed renovation and maintenance projects;

Review bids from contractors, focusing on the cost estimates of each contractor.

Advises Management on budgetary requirements of proposed work; Schedules

construction activities to conform to budget restraints; Maintains cost records.

Consults with architects and contractors regarding preliminary layout, construction

procedures, and code requirements that apply to renovation and maintenance projects.

Examines and approves engineering and architectural drawings and design

computations.

Coordinates renovation and maintenance activities of contractors.

Inspects materials, workmanship, and architectural, mechanical and electrical

installations for conformance to plans and specifications; Approve change in materials;
Inspect work in progress and upon completion.

Prepares overall maintenance schedules; oversees contracted maintenance and repair

activities.

Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.

Requirements: Bachelor or foreign equivalent in civil engineering, engineering technology,

construction management, facilities planning and management, or related; plus 5 years of experience
as a civil engineer, construction manager, or cost estimation specialist; any suitable combination of
education, training, and/or experience is acceptable.
