HERON
Heron Alexandria was an important geometer, writer, and worker in mechanics.
From Heron's writings it is reasonable to deduce that he taught at the Museum in
Alexandria. Some people use to believe he lived in 150 BC and 250 AD, but we now
know that he lived, but we now know that those who believed that Heron lived
around the time of Columella were indeed correct.

Herons Work
Let us examine some of Heron's work in a little more depth. Book I of his treatise
Metrica deals with areas of triangles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons of between 3
and 12 sides, surfaces of cones, cylinders, prisms, pyramids, spheres etc. A method,
known to the Babylonians 2000 years before, is also given for approximating the
square root of a number.

FORMULA for finding the area of a

triangle
If A is the area of a triangle with sides a, b and c and s = (a + b + c)/2
then
A2 = s (s - a)(s - b)(s - c).

Herons Formula ~ Common

Formula
HERONS- If A is the area of a triangle with sides a, b and c and s = (a + b + c)/2
then
A2 = s (s - a)(s - b)(s - c).
COMMON- A= bh

(b)(h)/2

They both get divided by 2
