Heading to the States

October was a busy month preparing to travel to
the States for Daniels wedding. We lined up a
Peruvian friend to watch our home and our dog
while we are gone. We also set up menus and left
money with our Peruvian team in order to keep the
feeding program active while we are away. We went
to the orphanage and informed the director that we
would be in the States until December but would
resume our English lessons and movie night when we
return. Everyone was helpful and understanding and
for that we are thankful.
Traveling is always an adventure in Peru, even on
the main road that leads to Lima. We always leave
the day before we have to be there because you
never know what might happen on the way. This
time we were delayed a few hours because a truck
hauling potato's went off the road and over the cliff.
The results were not good. Thankfully, we arrived
safely in the States on the October 20th and were
greeted at the airport by our son Matthew and some
dear friends.
During this visit to the states we are looking
forward to spending time with the boys, our friends
and family. I dont think the idea of Daniel getting

The

married has really sunk in yet, but we couldnt be

happier with thought of Audrey being part of our
family. We are also looking forward of spending
Thanksgiving in New York with Jennifers mom. We
would love to spend Christmas with the boys, but
we need to return to Peru to make sure everything
is progressing. So, we will fly back on December
second.
Please consider joining us in Peru on a short term
mission team. We have several churches talking
about sending teams next year and you could join
them or form your own team; Theres lots to do in
Peru! We also ask that you prayerfully consider
joining us financially, we never cease to need
monthly financial support especially now that our
ministries are growing.

We humbly thank you for your continued

prayers and financial support. If you havent
yet, we ask that you would prayerfully consider
financially supporting this ministry in Peru.
Without more financial partners this ministry
can not continue to grow. We love you all and
thank you for being part of Gods work in

Peru.

HELPING SAHLIT

Sahlit is the four year old daughter of a very special Peruvian friend. One day we were
around the family quite a bit and I noticed that Sahlit had several crying spells. When I asked
what was wrong, her mother Alejandra said that Sahlits teeth were bothering her and she
could not eat. I looked in her mouth and found that her teeth were mainly shells. They were
completely hollowed out from decay and abscesses were obvious. As you know, when a child
is hungry and in pain it very difficult for them to learn in school or about God, and Sahlit had
been in this situation for a long while. I always thought that she was a very quite and shy little
girl because I never saw her laughing, talking or running around but now I know why. So, we
searched for a dentist that we felt was capable to see her and found a very good one right in
Huancayo. This dental practice is a husband and wife team and we were very satisfied with
their knowledge and office when we visited them. Dr. Gemma treated Sahlit and was very
gentle and patient. Sahlit had to start with two rounds of antibiotics before actual treatment
could be started because the infection was rampant in her mouth. Dr. Gemma asked Sahlits
mother if she had ever had antibiotics and she responded Yes, she had her vaccine. This
clearly showed her lack of education and the dentist was annoyed. We explained the
difference to Alejandra and also how to administer the antibiotics and the importance of
completing treatment even if Sahlit felt better. Fortunately, Alejandra trusted us and did
everything perfectly. This little girl ended up having one extraction and six pulpotomys,
which is similar to root canal. We are lucky that her parents trust us, so when I told them they
need to change her diet and brush her teeth daily they believed me. Immediately after the
first round of antibiotics and treatment I saw a change in Sahlit. Her true personality is now
apparent and she is a happy, giggly and energetic sweetheart.

James 2:14-17
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to
have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save
them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and
daily food. If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep
warm and well fed, but does nothing about their physical
needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is
not accompanied by action, is dead.
