Colours and

shapes
Rayan, its good to have you back at the centre after an extended holiday back to your home
town, Jordan. I still remember the first day I met you, you were a little shy and quiet but soon
we built a relationship together by spending more time getting to know each other.
After lunch time today, you went over to the Montessori corner and started looking for an
activity to work with. You had a good look at the activities available and picked up a
matching bear game. The aim of the game is to match bears according the colour and size of
the bears on the card. I noticed you looked puzzled thinking What should I do with them?
Luckily, your sister Lujain was nearby. She explained and demonstrated what to do with them
in Arabic. You were carefully watching how she played the game and in no time you were on
your way to helping her find the right colour and size bear.
A while later, Lujain finished her turn at the game and when asking you if you would like to
have a turn, you said yes with a big smile. You collected the bears, started grouping in
different colours and went on with the game. While you were playing, you showed me a bear
and asked What colour? and I responded by saying Its a blue bear, Rayan. This went on
until we covered all the different colours of the bear. It was great to see you matching the
bears up perfectly Rayan, well done!
Rayan, you have embraced a math concept involving sizes and colours. While you were
having fun playing, you were learning maths skills such as grouping, counting and one
to one matching. You showed great focus, engagement and perseverance to reach your
goal. Well done, Rayan!
Rayan, perhaps next time you might like to choose one of our other games to play
involving different math concepts where you can extend your number knowledge and
learn how to add group of numbers.
