N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Madison Bardsley Date of Activity: 10/28/15 Faculty name: Professor Moutafis
Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with:
I attended three community service/professional activities. The first was St. Lukes IPEP,
where I was the student nurse in a group with medical and pharmacy students. During this
activity, the group met with an elder that lived at the home and went over their medications with
them. We ensured the elder understood what medications they were taking, why they were taking
them, and making sure all the medications they were on were actually needed. The second
activity I participated in was College of Nursing Tours during family weekend. During this
activity, a partner and I presented information on Foley catheters to groups of parents and
students as they came by our station. This was done to help educate families on different skills
nursing students learn and to discuss the intensity of the program and how beneficial it is. The
final activity I attended was a discussion salon on What is Healing? During this salon various
individuals, including students, faculty, and professors, met and discussed healing along with all
the aspects of it, both physically and mentally. The goal of the discussion was to spark new
thoughts and engage open discussion between all attending, ultimately building social
relationships between students, faculty, and professors.
Where was this held and what was program/activity length?
The first activity, St. Lukes IPEP, was held at the St. Lukes facility. It was four and a
half hours in duration on October 10th. The second activity, College of Nursing Tours, was held at
the College of Nursing on October 9th. This activity was two hours long. The final activity,
discussion salon on What is Healing?, took place at the College of Nursing in room 416 on
October 28th and lasted an hour and a half.
Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific).
These activities were extremely beneficial to me. All of them provided further insight into
nursing and allowed growth of knowledge within the nursing profession. St. Lukes allowed me
to practice collaboration between the different professions, including medical, pharmacy and

social work students. This was great as it allowed us to see how the other healthcare team
students work and think. The experience also helped me test my medication knowledge. The
College of Nursing Tours experience was beneficial as well. During this activity, I was able to
teach others about Foley Catheters, which in the process allowed me to brush up on my
knowledge about them. It was also a great opportunity to practice my leadership skills by talking
to large groups of individuals. The final activity was beneficial because it widened my
perspective on healing and what all healing consists of, in terms of both physical and mental
processes. The discussion sparked insight from different areas of nursing specialties, which
allowed all individuals to learn and expand their knowledge. All of the activities I attended were
beyond helpful to me in my growth as a nursing student.
Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why
or why not?
Yes, I would recommend all the professional/community experiences I was able to attend.
Each of the activities broadened my perspective and allowed both skills and knowledge to be
tested and solidified. All of the activities were fun, educational, and a great experience!
