What is Educational Technology?

What is Educational Technology? Well that is a good
question. Just the phrase alone may cause the mature population of our society to cringe and run for cover. Technology in
general is scary to those who have not grown up with its use.
However, seeing that technology is intrinsically woven into every aspect of our daily lives, it seems only prudent that it be embraced, understood, and utilized. This goes especially for educators.
In an article written by M.D. Roblyer and A.H. Doering
there is no acceptable definition of educational technology.
Technology historian, Paul Saettler, marks the earliest reference to educational technology to have come from radio instruction pioneer W.W. Charters in 1948, and instructional technology was first used in 1963 by James Finn, an audiovisual expert.

Prezi Me This
Is PowerPoint a thing of the past? It could very well be since the
inception of Prezi. Prezi is a form of presentation software that is cloud
-based. It uses what is called ZUI (zooming user interface). This allows
the user to zoom in on the information and give movement to slides that
is equal to the animation of Powerpoint. According to Wikipedia The
word prezi is the Hungarian short form of presentation. This is a
very diverse form of software that employs many different features.
As mentioned earlier there is the ZUI which can be used to navigate between videos, images, texts, etc. within a single presentation. (Wikipedia.com) Other features of Prezi include; Prezi Desktopallows users to work off-line. Prezi Collaborate-allows users to collaborate with each other from separate locations. Prezi Viewer for iPadallows users to use their touch screen tablet to create and present
through Prezi.
Prezi can be used in many different ways and is especially helpful
in the classroom to keep the information being presented to students
fresh and interactive. Within the context of the classroom however,
Web2Access considers Prezi to be an inaccessible service because it is
not ADA/508 compliant and advises educators to make a PowerPoint version of the presentation available for the students on line. (https//

Mpesa
There is a trend in Africa that involves the cell phone. It
is called Mpesa. The way it wors is similar to our Westeren Union bill
pay or our online bill pay. Users pay bills, transfer money, and buy
goods from their phone.
Because the currency in Africa is so very large and cumbersome, it is very difficult to carry around in your pocket, so governmental officials developed this program to make monetary transactions easier and safer for the citizens of the country. Mpesa lets users put money into their account and use it any way they wish just by
making a few clicks on their phone. It is very helpful for those living
in urban areas to send money to their family in their home village.
The steps they take are to register to join Mpesa, load some money,
send money, and pay bills.
The service is operated by IBM Global and has markets that
include Kenya, Tanzania and Afghanistan. The site was initially created to allow people to re-pay micro loans, but has bloomed from
there. One slogan for this program is Now you can fly with Mpesa
